How many different choirs does North Central have? Jeez. Thats epic.

NC has 9 different choirs. 5 of them actually go to competitions. 4 out of the 5 are show choirs, the other is a concert choir. They have 1 gospel group and the rest pretty much just perform at the winter and end-of-the-year shows.

I don't think people are going to take your request to post scores as a serious professional request, considering you're being condescending towards a group's choice of style and show design without offering so much as even a bit of encouragement or constructive criticism or saying something about the actual performance itself (whether constructively critical or a compliment), or even being specific after what about Chesterton's show is so great.

LN's mixed group performed well in prelims. It was a little surprising they did not make finals.
Then again, I have been surprised many times...

Personally, I was very impressed with Chesterton's powerful vocals - they just had such a wall of sound and sounded so much stronger than the last time I saw one of their shows. Such clean choreography also. Great job, Chesterton!
I think Center Grove's show design is creative and resourceful, and very effective adding to the general artistry of the show, and not at all distracting. So much energy and strong vocals!
Congrats to both groups on GREAT performances!!!

What was condescending?? Just because I did not praise CG at the same time that I commented on wedding cakes etc... The props do not take away anything from the talent and the precision of CG's show, I just think that it's a little much... and why is their band not populated by students instead of parents/ or professional musicians? Either way the CG kids put on a great show and they set a standard that all of the Indiana show choirs should aspire to. And I'll be honest and say that any time our kids and parents are at a competition with CG they make time to see their show because..why not see one of the all time Indiana best show choirs?

Would one of the directors from the competition class schools please post the results from the prelims? I personally thought that Chesterton should have made the finals. I had them at third and can't believe that they did not get in. After Norwell it is my belief that their show was head and shoulders above many others that I've seen including my own school. As a side note, I think that stained glass and wedding cakes with hydraulic lifts overshadow the actual performance of the kids trying so hard on stage to be the best that they can be.

I have to agree with DandyDance on this one.

I think North Central has an amazing vocal presence and they really show it off in the Carmina Burana. Their Flying Home soloist is the best soloist I have ever heard in Show Choir. I hope he goes to a great music school, because he could have a seriously awesome future. But I also think Center Grove is really solid vocally this year and, to give them credit, sings as a complete ensemble for 95% of their show. So while I kind of expected North Central to win the vocal caption, I wasn't surprised to see CG take it.

But visually.... whoa. Again, to reiterate what Dandy said, North Central is a great show choir, and I am NOT dogging on them at all, but the level of visual sophistication Center Grove brings to the stage is on a different level than what NC does.

I'd be really curious to see how the visual judges placed everyone and what the point spreads were like.

Well said!

In ISSMA scoring, is Best Visuals and Best Choreography the same thing?? Because i understand how clean choreography and great pictures can create Best Visuals (and if thats the case then i can see how NC won Best Visuals.) However, if Best Visuals means the use of props etc then no doubt Center Grove should win. Both NC and CG are incredibly talented groups . If we are going to talk about how big of a shock it was for NC to win Best Visuals then we cant forget the fact that CG won Best Vocals as well. I think i speak for 95% of the show choir world in saying that NC is on eof the best choirs around vocally especially this year (opener and ballad=amazing).

Here is my take on Saturday (Prelim performances. I went to FC for Finals)

North Central- you guys are simply AMAZING!!! Every soloist was beyond the typical talent of a high school soloist. Opener showed them off vocally. BOTH ballad soloists were exceptional. Guys blended well in "love Stoned". Only complaint....... the energy in the closer dies.

Center Grove- i love Center Grove!! no matter what they perform their songs amazingly well and any and every show choir can learn something from that. Once again, i do think CG's closer dies but the rest of their show is pretty good.

Warren Central- if you guys werent at such a hard competition, you would have won. You guys are so talented and your show is one of the most entertaining around.

Plainfield- grown so much through the years!!
Carroll- i'm glad you guys have finally made finals this year!! CONGRATS!!!

I agree with all results on Saturday at LC's comp (just switch the captions) and i agree with the Women's show choir awards.

ISSMA score sheets base vocal and visual scores out of 200 points total. There are 2 categories for both vocals and visuals (100 points for technique in vocals, 100 points for artistry in vocals, and same for visuals). The judges are generally told to start in the middle of the point spread on the sheet and then work either up or down from there.
