i think it would have been tighter if the drummer girls actually played the drums...

I agree...I didn't really get the whole "fake drumming" thing. but at least a noise came out when they "hit" the drums. thanks to their drummer I am assuming.

does anyone know if any of the choirs' sets are up on Youtube or anywhere? there were a few I didn't get to see.

i mean everyone was like "WOW" when those flower things came out

It seems, especially given the fact that someone has expressed they didn't like the outfits right in this topic, that not everyone was "like wow".

Though Ben Davis may not dance much in their opener, They still have some of the most challenging choreography in the state qualificating choirs. No offense to Plainfield at all, but Jarad Voss gives Ben Davis very challenging choreo compared to Jeff VanParis' choreography. Also, they may have cut their guy/girl numbers, but they had to add in and learn tons more choreography. And, by a reliable source, I know that the reason they cut their guys and girls number is due to technical difficulties. (The Lift Broke, and the girl in Love Potion got injured badly)

Also, despite the whole "show liking" thing, Dekalb can not be denied the talents they bring to their show. Maybe the judges did like a classical approach better, but they SHOULD not be punished due to their directors show choices.
The judging was screwy, and this was obvious to me when the Warren Central Hi-Lites, and Anderson's Girls(Class act?) were not in the top 6 girl choirs.

VanParis' stuff isnt hard but it aint a walk in the park either he had alot to deal with this year

we usually have a small group of about 36 (roughly) people this year we had 52 and a good majority of them were new and either had nvr done this be4 or just nvr heard of it

i mean u would feel the same way if this situation rose up in ur group im not tryin to be disrepectful but VanParis has done this for 20+ years and his stuff may be classic but plainfield has always really been that way

JessFabulous do you understand why I Go To Rio is SO OUTRAGEOUS? its because of the context of the musical the boy from Oz. In the musical the lead says, "Hey You have to have a big finale" thats why its over the top it makes fun of how musical theatre leaves you with the impression of it being a great show by pulling off a HUGE Closer. Thats why I am sure Carmel Directors did it that way, they wanted it huge, and elaborate. Now even if you didnt like the costumes, find something else to criticise the show because i am certain it wasnt the actual performers fault. I mean its not like the costumes lost them competitions.

You're referring to Carmel's closing outfits, right?

If so, do take into consideration that the costumes are really meant to be over-the-top and elaborate for that song. See here --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oso9InsW7L0

I did take it into consideration. I have already seen the show and my opinion still stands..I didn't like their closing outfits.

Carmel Ambassadors had already won their first Luers Grand Championship (1977) before Edgewood was even a finalist (1978). Carmel won for the third time in 1979, with Edgewood failing to make finals. In 1980, Carmel would barely escape with their fourth title, beating Edgewood by a mere point and a half. (Third place? North Central Counterpoints.) Finally in 1981, Edgewood won their first Grand Championship, while Carmel settled for first runner-up. Later, Carmel's director Ron Hellems, and Edgewood's then-choreographer, Jim Savage, would both agree that the results should have been reversed, with Edgewood winning in 1980 and Carmel winnng in 1981. Carmel sat out 1982 and Edgewood repeated as Grand Champions. When they met again in 1983, Carmel was first, Mt Zion was second and Edgewood was third. In 1985, Carmel won their sixth title, but Edgewood was again a finalist. Carmel's next and, to date, last Luers appearance came in 1988; in their one and only meeting Lafayette Jefferson First Edition was first, Carmel second. (Edgewood was third.) Edgewood would win their third (and so far last) Luers Grand Championship in 1989 (Lafayette Jeff was fourth) but First Edition would go on to win the next four in a row, 1990-1993.

thanks for that! obviously Edgewood was a lot closer than I thought!

I never took back my comment. My opinion still stands. I still think the costumes were too overdone for my personal taste..AND THATS OK it's just an opinion.

I know that you don't like Anderson at all, Smitty, but it's okay. That is YOUR opinion. Us being 7th at state was the JUDGES opinions. Obviously we were at least somewhat decent to have made it to state in the first place, right? ;)

Congrats to everyone who made State. Ya'll were great and every one of you deserved to be there!

...They definitely surpassed Edgewood in the 80's... did Edgewood ever beat Carmel? If you are going to compare anyone to Carmel in the 80's and 90's it will have to be Clinton and Lafayette Jefferson.

They are the forefathers of Mid-West Show choir...right up there with Edgewood in the 80's and Clinton from the 90's till the present...people want to see them fail because that means that they are just like every other group!

my whole thing is its calles show choir and thats why it is 60/40 (Vocals/Visual) at some comps thats the way it SHOULD be!

Well 1: It's SHOW CHOIR with two words MY FIRST HAAKON POINT!!!

2: They definitely surpassed Edgewood in the 80's... did Edgewood ever beat Carmel? If you are going to compare anyone to Carmel in the 80's and 90's it will have to be Clinton and Lafayette Jefferson.

i think the only reason you think my results are wacky is because your group isn't in the top 6...

wrong, i was just talking about the quality of the vocals, dancing, entertainment factor, energy etc. I couldn't care less if my group is or isn't at the top of your list.

But you know, that's just my opinion...

I just noticed how everyone seemed to Dog on carmel for not being that impressive and then after Livininchoir said something about it everyone was like NO NO I was just saying...it just made me giggle a little bit!

But anyway yea Carmel is the shizzle we all know it! This year marks my first time not being able to go to "Evening" in the last like 5 years! that show is Always tight as Hell along with their Winter Spec! If you ever get a chance to go to ANY Carmel Choral Program or a Carmel Musical I HIGHLY advise you do! They are just Awesome and the fact of the matter is people dont like them at times because now that they are back...their a threat to all the big groups becuz like someone said Carmel MADE show choir!! They are the forefathers of Mid-West Show choir...right up there with Edgewood in the 80's and Clinton from the 90's till the present...people want to see them fail because that means that they are just like every other group!

and about the whole "overdone" costums...some sets that I saw this year were SOOO overdone that it wasnt even funny! my whole thing is its calles show choir and thats why it is 60/40 (Vocals/Visual) at some comps thats the way it SHOULD be! There was one group that I saw this year that had the loudest show i have ever heard...visiually not so much vocally (no contrast) and not gonna lie I hated most of the show but they still placed high because of their visual in my opinion but ya know its like whatever because thats why im not a judge and they are! but its cool

again Carmel your AMAZING and always will be...congrads on Sweeping ISSMA even if the other "Big Name" groups across the state were there, I still believe that you would win!

Peace Im out!

I think people dont want to give Carmel credit, becuase they ARE CARMEL. Lets be realistic not that many people like Carmel because of the history and the awards they have one and received fair and square. Carmel's athletic program is ranked in the top 10 nation wide, their Marching Band does very well at BOA nationals (2005 national champ) and the Accents have always done well when competing in the past. In addition, the long history of the Ambassadors competing in Bishop Luers in the 1980s and beating many favorite choirs has made Carmel a target for jealously rather than compliments. I think because of the styles of today, such as the Contemporary themes that come from many show choirs nowadays, Carmel seems to be a sleeping giant, however, doing very well on scoresheets because of their traditional views of show choir, and after all ...as said by others, the Carmel Ambassadors "created show choir".

QUOTE(livininchoir @ Mar 22 2007, 07:59 PM)
I think one should invest in going to see Carmel's show titled "Evening with the Ambassadors." This show has been rumored to be what Carmel is about. I think a lot of people would finally realize how the Ambassadors and Accents succeed. I believe the show is on March 23 and 24 at 7:30 at Carmel HS. I hear that the Ambassadors and Accents do more than just competition sets at these shows...kinda like CP's end of the year show.
