Not in offense or to voice my opinion about placements, but our set isn't just "what teenagers like." Several of the songs were older-era pieces that our parents might have grown up with. All of us also need to realize that show choir is part of the ENTERTAINMENT industry. It is meant to entertain those who come to view the show, so the style must change to fit the culture if the show is actually going to fulfill its purpose. Besides, it was quite painful to have to watch some of those guys in our choir try to learn the choreography. Ever try to get a white guy to really dance? and I'm not even going to respond to the thing about "dance technicality"... just go watch our youtube stuff yourself.

To answer the question if i am a Carmellite, the answer is nope! I am a friend to Carmel, IN being that I go to Park Tudor. I however, dont live in Carmel, I live on Meridian downtown Indianapolis, and being from PT I know how much Carmel and PT students get judged on wealth and such. For PT not having a large PDA I love to go up and watch carmel because they do so well and many of my friends go there that performed with me in summer stock at PT. Therefore, I am only an admirier (i think i spelled that word wrong but you get the idea) that is all. However, why would you give someone the name of being a "Carmellite". I mean I don't go around saying you are a "Indianapolisite" or a "Nappy" as some people would say. I am certain as well that people would agree.

Carmelite is quite clever, and also is an allusion to another piece of literature. don't get offended by it. It also has to do with the generalization that Carmel is fairly conformist. (drive by any of the neighborhoods, they all look the same.)

QUOTE(livininchoir @ Mar 27 2007, 09:24 PM)
I think the issue here is more about style and taste, than about degree of energy put forward. I think alot of people would agree with me. This is solely my opinion. I think NC CP has great show and a great fan base because they are modern and do what teenagers like. Carmel on the otherhand, does like a classic show choir style which pleases score sheets and judges. Keep in mind many judges might have been in the 80s show choir era thus liking carmel's style a little bit more. You get what I am saying. Teenagers and hip hop choreo. are not judging competitions. Older mature judges are looking for vocal performance and dance technicality.

Ok so i figured i would give my input on state.

I think Anderson's girls' group should HAVE CLEARLY BEEN IN TOP 6!!. They were one of teh best groups vocally there.

Carmel Accents- ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! u guys have such a GREAT, FULL, MATURE SOUND!! an du ballad gave me chills. AMAZING

NC- you guys continue to do what you do well. Keep your heads up because anywhere else besides Indiana you would have been State Champions. and YOU GUYS PERFORMED FIRST!!

BD- IMPROVED SO MUCH!!! i knew from the beginning of the year that you guys would do well. I dont understand why you didnt make finals the whole year but you guys placed 5th in the state.

LC- personally, i think you guys were VERY CLOSE to being 2nd. I love your opener and ALL of you solists are very good.

MIXED SHOW CHOIR

i think the judges liked TYPICAL SHOW CHOIR!!

Carmel- veyr well done and exactly from over 20 yrs of retirement. However, i do think the judges were IN AMAZEMENT ( as was I) over your closer costumes. It can distract from the vocals BUT A JOB WELL DONE.

NC- you guys deserved to win Best Vocals in my opinion and i think your choreography is the most difficult ut the judges like the typical show choir and you guys really didnt show variety BUT you did what you did well. in my opinon, GRAND CHAMPIONS

LC- shocked!! you gusy have improved and I LOVE YOUR CHOREOGRAPHY SO MUCH.

BD- you guys deserved BETTER THAN 11TH!!! enough said

Im sure i forgot to mention worthy choirs but that was all i could really think of at that point.

Now to MY RESULTS:

I think the womens show choir ended up right for the most part.

GC: Carmel Accents ( Best Vocals and Best Visuals)
1st RU: North Central Descants
2nd RU: Lawrence Central Sweet Sensations
3rd RU: Anderson Class Act
4th RU: Ben Davis Soundsastions
5th RU: Lawrence North His Street

Mixed Show Choir

GC: North Central Counterpoints ( Best Vocals)
1st RU: Lawrence Central Central Sound (because 60% of score is vocals)
2nd RU: Carmel Accents ( Best Visuals)
3rd RU: Warren Central Connections
4th RU: Dekalb Classic Connection
5th RU: Ben Davis Premiers

i agree with those placings 100%...2 bad u werent a judge, because in my opinion(Emphasis on MY OPINION) i think that u got it right

Actually, no it's not. It's NC vs. Center Grove LOL! I never thought this topic would last this long. Most competing choirs at ISSMA have moved on . People are def. allowed to debate and have their opinion though. Carmel won and until next year not much can be done about it but talk about it!

I would agree, except I like drama too much and the main drama part of the season is almost over... so everyone can keep going if they feel like it!!!

Just a few quick things... I wasn't at this competition, and I haven't seen NC or Carmel, so I'm of course not commenting on the results. I just think there are a few inaccuracies in the post quoted below, and they're bugging me.

First, many of North Central's fans, including myself, prize their consistent vocal ability above all else. We are not all teenagers, and we are not all as simple-minded as "oh hey, they're doing a song I listen to on the radio- they're my favorite show choir!". North Central's popularity is not a fluke because of their show design- they are simply a stunning show choir who has consistently sung and danced at an incredibly high level.

Second, there IS technique required to do hip hop correctly, just as much as any other form of dance or movement. A knowledgeable judge will recognize this regardless of age or preference.

The bright side of the situation...

Just making it to ISSMA is an honor in itself. Not a lot of choirs get the chance to go.

At least we all know that we were the Top 12 most liked groups in Indiana. I say most liked, because it doesn't mean we are the best. The judges just favored us.

After all, show choir is based only on OPINION.

However, why would you give someone the name of being a "Carmellite".

Because I think it's clever. Also, they're trying to annex the Westfielders for no reason.

You're a Park Tudorian. Or a Parkie. Or Parkie Tudoriteian. I haven't decided yet.

And to "I just wish, people would be done with the subject on carmel shouldn't have one [sic] state..."

You can't just make people's opinions go away because you don't agree with them.

You all know how hard competing is. Can we finally close the pages on carmel winning state and thus not being right. What is done is done and cannot be changed. I mean look at CG SS and NC CP, NC can in 2nd and CG took 1st at Lawrence Central in February, that is kinda like Carmel vs. NC, if you think about it.
