There was a MEtrofest in 2004, it was my senior year. Not sure about '05, but definetly not since 2006.
I believe the reason it was stopped was the Civic Center figured it could make more money with a "bigger show" Maybe Mr. Temple or Mr. Woodin can shed some light on it.

yea the last year was 04; Urbandale's music dept. usually headed it up, and because of it never really getting sold out, the event lost money. Jody was talkin today bout how cool it would be to get Urbandale, Ankeny, Waukee, and Johnston together for something.

Every year the Cedar Rapids area holds the Indoor Marching Band Classic, which features the marching bands from

Kennedy
Jefferson
Prairie
Washington
Linn-Mar
Marion
Xavier

AND then gets one of the state university bands to perform.

And I don't think the show is too horribly long. So adding Xavier to the Fab Five doesn't seem too difficult. I think you would have to eliminate the solo performances though. And perhaps the song at the end. Six choir's kids couldn't fit on four risers.

If I'm remembering right, it was called "Metrofest", and they only stopped having it a couple years ago. I think 2004 might have been the first year without it. Jason, any idea?

Yeah, it was cool- I've seen tapes of a couple of the years; it was a neat thing to have. Who knows, maybe it'll start up again in the future!

There is no admission fee. However, we do ask that you make like a 5 or 10 dollar donation at the door. Thank you

Ehh, I wouldn't count on it.

One idea that we had was, instead of invading the Fab Five (which is already too long), if Xavier, IC High + IC West, and maybe Benton or someone like that got Hancher for a night, for a fundraiser (The Fantastic Four? ). Could be fun.

Yeah, Xavier students have been suggesting that for the last few years now. Honestly, I think it would be kind of a cool thing to do, but it would take some tweaking. I would be shocked if just three show choirs could draw enough of a crowd to make it financially feasible to rent Hancher. The prices for that place are astronomical. Perhaps the Englert Theatre downtown; that's a more suitable size. Lol, Benton? Nothing at all against them, but I wouldn't consider them a part of the Iowa City metro. (Neither is Xavier, I know, but that's a different story.) The big hurdle is that neither of the Iowa City schools are really interested in doing anything like that. Both schools are strictly extracurricular, so they conclude their seasons in early March, and aren't interested in extending them. They do the Works In Progress show together in mid-November, and I think that in many people's minds, that fills the need for both schools to share a performance.

I would love to see City and West bring Xavier down for a big night of show choir, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I dont think we are that far away from seeing Xavier in a revamped version of the Fab 5, but i know it will take answers to many logistical problems... so until those get fixed...

I agree that it'd be great to add Xavier into the mix, but adding IC schools would make the whole thing wayy tooo loong. & i still consider CR & IC two different cities, maybe partly because I live in both.

I really hope I can figure a way back to CR to see Fab Five this year.!! It's always difficult since it's M/T :[

I know it would make the show too long.

But I think it would be cool to add Xavier and the Iowa Cities.

I mean, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City are so close to merging that they are really starting to be viewed as the same area. The Cedar Rapids Gazette now includes City High and West in their "Metro schools."

That would be entirely too long though...

I'd like to see Xavier in first before the ICs. But as it has been said numerous times... it will probably never happen.

Makes sense now!

That Des Moines "Fab Five" would have been cool to see, especially this year.

Cedar Rapids does the same type of event, but it is the five public schools in the area. It's called the Fab Five and I believe in its 12 or 13th year?

Kennedy
Jefferson
Prairie
Washington
Linn-Mar

It's a two day event, usually sells out, and contains solo and group acts in between each main group.

Fab 5's first year was 1994 so this is it's 14th year. I've been to every fab 5 ever! (cept maybe not this year )

I'm pretty sure he meant since this is a competition forum....and that show-off isn't a competition and he posted under the competition forum, he didn't want to get in trouble for posting in the wrong forum.

I love the title... "Davenport Show Choir Show-Off, Its not a competition, so i hope i dont get in trouble." Is Davenport Central not allowed to post about competitions? Or what?

Why don't you tell the people dates, times, costs, and venue. Not just what it is.

I personally see potential in a good poster with in you.
When you making a topic that is something like a concert and you know details, or think you do, post them, that way people know.
