Care to explain that a little Chris? Sarcasm doesn't translate too well via typed words, so I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at.

Not bringing back judges because they don't agree with the majority would leave about 0 judges to judge... So...Gary Schwartzhoff disagreed with most other judges and hurt Kennedy's score, should he be dropped too?

Terry Hudson: Expert of vocal music, adjudication, choreography, score arranging, show design, and professionalism

Okay- this is the order each judge had, along with some point spreads.

T. Hudson:

1. Bloomington Kennedy: 211
2. Bloomington Jefferson: 200
3. Hastings: 186
4. Totino-Grace: 185
5. Fort Atkinson: 183
6. Holmen: 177

I pulled this right off of our Finals score sheet.

My opinon is I think its stupid that one judge is able to screw up the scoring so much, this kinda happened to our group that went to Branson FAME, 2 or 3 years ago. One judge placed us like last and the rest had us first, so we ended with 2nd. I dont know.

I'm glad people had fun at winterfest and I can't wait for next weekend at Hastings. Anyways I wanted to say good job to everyone. I think every group was amazing this year. I was blown away by Bloomington Kennedy, and Totino, as always were great and I love love love your closer dresses. THey are way too cute. Bloomington Jefferson both prep and AA were great. Fort Atkinson, I like the cool Globe thing in the back, and great soloist. You guys have really stepped it up, love it! Hastings I love you guys. The ballad is beautiful and your character numbers are soo funny. Those were the ones stuck in my head right now, I really enjoyed watching all of the groups. Good luck to everyone in the rest of their season.

Nancy Allen: Associate Professor of Music, Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI

Denise Edwards: Freelance Choreographer

Terry Hudson: Expert of vocal music, adjudication, choreography, score arranging, show design, and professionalism

Marshall Johnson: Vocal Music Director, Grimsley High School, North Carolina

Gary Schwartzhoff: Professor of Music and Choral Activities, UW-Eau Claire

Stephen Wells: One of the Instrumental music teachers, DeLong Middle School, Eau Claire, WI

I'm looking at the score breakdown we got after finals, and I think the ones posted above are different than what I have here...

Whoa those scores are seriously all over the board...Holmen prep ahead of Totino? I love their showbut Totino is undoubtedly superior...Very confusing.

Nancy Allen was closest IMO:

1 – Totino
2 – Hastings
3 – B. Kennedy
4 – B. Jefferson
5 – Ft. Atkinson
6 - Holmen

Here's the thing.

I just heard a story about a situation that took place at Edgewood's competition yesterday... A student was approached by two competitors, who went up to her to tell her her costume was nice. They then asked her what school she was from. After identifying herself with a school, one competitor said that she was not familiar with the group. The other competitor said, "Oh, I've seen you. Your group is bad." When the director of these two girls was approached with the story, the director simply said, "Well, kids will be kids. Nothing I can do."

Show choir should give students an education in more than just music. Proper etiquette, sportsmanship, professionalism, and class... these are IMPORTANT life skills- and they are all skills that can be nurtured and developed through participation in a competitive group activity like show choir. Long after most of you stop singing and dancing, you will still carry class and professionalism with you into every area of your life- and it will benefit you!

Sure, sometimes it's hard to use self-control, whether to keep in something negative or to reign in a positive reaction that could be occuring at an inappropriate time- and yes, there ARE inappropriate times. This fact does not excuse situations where self-control is thrown out the window. It just doesn't.

Show choir members have the ability to sing, dance, play instruments, perform, and work hard in a group of people to achieve a common goal.

I find it hard to believe that despite having all of those skills, in addition to all of the other skills you each possess, that you don't have the ability to hold in a rude comment, stop the spreading of vicious rumors, or allow each group their moment in the sun.

Just my thoughts...

Agreed!

I heard about a story at Milton this year where a groups band director was heard saying awful things about a competing group. They of course were surrounded by the group's parents while talking about them. You would think he/she would have the common sense not to voice their very foul and nasty opinions in such an open setting... but it seems people these days don't have much common sense.

If you don't have something nice or constructive to say, don't say anything at all.

What a great weekend!
Kennedy- Congrats- The dedication u have poured into the program is phenominal. the fact that you have rehearsals before school shows - and definitely paid off! As we were sitting their me and Drew look at each other and were like" okay .. they beat us" Then we smiled and could just enjoy your show This is really randomn.. but imagine how amazing it would be if we had a "Rythymn and Connection" group.. like a combo of both.. we'd be mind numbing! lol.

Hastings: You are my new favorite set this year. THe boys with the pjs.. and the sad puppy dog faces when the girls leave is the most cutest adorablest thing ever.

Old Abe: wow! the Prince medley is great! the cheorgraphy on that number alone makes u a huge contender for GC.. and sorry for breaking our hosts mirror! Hopefully that doesnt mean 7 years of bad luck for Connection.... " border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Oh! and shout out to Mama Karen for amazing sloppy joes !

Ana you are a genious.
I'm graduated from high school and I can see the positive effects in my business life and college life from how our director went about teaching us how to first be professional and courteous toward our competitors and than following those with teachings us our singing. I guess people just need to get over themselves and realize everyone has feelings too, so you should think about what it would be like if the hurtful things were directed to you instead of you dissing other people/groups.

If anyone knows the hosts for Bloomington Kennedy's room (I'm sorry, it was so frantic... I never caught your names! I feel bad! haha) you should tell them that they were awesome and thank them a million times over because I know how much it sucks to help clean up someone else's mess. I stayed after and picked up all the stuff that other people forgot and tried to help as much as I could. You guys were so supportive and we are all very thankful for the kindness you showed towards us! If you see any of us at another competition you should remind us that you were our hosts because I know we didn't thank you enough.

Hosts are always taken for granted.

Props to Tim for hitting the nail on the head.

haha they were Katie, Sam, Matias, and David...none of them are on here, but ill tell them thanks for you!

A funny story about this...I was in the bathroom and two girls were washing their hands and just talking casually about how big and afro-y their hair was today....and I walked out of the stall...and the looks on their faces just kind of said..."ok maybe not!" (if you have seen Bloomington Kennedy's hair you know what i mean) In this situation it was hillarious, but you never know

Yea, we always make it a point not to talk about anyone while we are at the competition. I spend the entire day hushing people, haha. We actually really pride ourselves on that aspect, so I'm a little confused. Also, I know it doesn't seem like it but all this talk about being excited to beat Totino is meant as a compliment. We felt so privileged to be a part of a competition with SO many amazing groups. I often think of my own group as not even on the same level as groups like Hastings, Totino and Bemidji. It's so unreal. We all idolize those groups so much.

Tim, you continue to be a sparkling image for what it is to be human. lol

Kennedy: You guys had a great show: Strong and vibrant vocals, effective and entertaining choreography, and a band that is one of the best in my (albeit short) memory (any band that has a harmonica solo deserves to win, let alone when it was as awesome as yours was. If it weren't for my anxiety to stand out, I'd have given a standing-ovation after that part, lol). My girlfriend was floored with your guys's show, and I'm still struck with how much intensity you guys had during finals. Fantastic work and congrats on the win!

Hastings: If there's one quality that a show choir can have that I set above all others, it's the ability to make me laugh. If there are two qualities that I set above everything else, it's also the ability to tell a story. You guys did both, and did them VERY well. I loved the costumes in the beginning, and the entire novelty and closing was a complete blast. And you have done what I thought was impossible, you've made me actually like a ballad, how dare you. Seriously though, that song was my favorite for the entire day and the moment when you first sing "...and you give yourself away..." still rings in my head. Your show was my favorite for the day and I can't wait to see you again at Spectacular!

TG: Don't let anything tell you guys otherwise, you were brilliant on stage. I'll tell you guys what I said to a few of you when I saw you last, it's not until you're finally sitting out in the audience until you start to realize how well it all fits together. I saw you in both the afternoon and finals and I can't think of a thing I'd have changed differently in order for you guys to put on a better show. The vocals were strong, crisp (how you all sing "snuff that girl" like that and still be understood is beyond me) and I love your dynamic changes (the soft section in "who loves you baby" for one). The choreography is as strong as ever, and the band is at the top of its game, like usual. Although, I'd much prefer at minimum a 13 minute bass solo from Nick Hall, but I don't think it's all that practical... Again, this show is nothing short of amazing and you guys should be nothing but proud because it's a VERY polished product you deliver.

Overall, this was my first competition I'd gone to since I graduated, and it was a blast! Thank you again to all of the groups for keeping my easily-distracted, often-bored, 19-year-old mind entertained the entire day. And should my comments spark anything (although I'd thought I'd done a good job of keeping it even-keel), remember to take everything I (or anyone else, for that matter) have said with two grains of salt.

well, i thought I'd share my thoughts on the whole competition.

First off, I loved every group i saw at the comp, which i realized is a first. Everyone, and i mean everyone has become so much better this year and it makes me super happy. Jefferson, i loved the opener, LOVED it. it really gave u room to have fun and show your ability to sing and dance. Also, that last phrase u sing gives me chills. Love it, big step up. Hastings, i love the new direction. Bring me to life, i think, could not have be better done. You pulled it off, and that says a lot. I also loved your second song and your ballad. I dont kno why, but during the ballad, i love how the girls dont look at the boys and the boys dont look at the girls, because that deals alot with personal characters you protray on stage. And also, just beautifully sang. Kennedy, magnificant job. When i was a freshman, i saw you for the first time at hastings and to be honest, your show was good. But, i saw your show from last year and this year at eau claire and both times you have blown me away. You've really become a show choir thats got it going on. definitly my favorite show to watch last year, and probably again this year. and btw, your band is beyond belief. they really add so much more to your show, and when u have time, really thank them. every piece of your show really has enthusiaism. Personally, i think you deserved to win, and im not just saying that to be nice or to be a suck up. really, nice job. Fort Atkinson, once again a great show for you this year. I love the ballad, but im sure everyone says that. I also love the song with the 2 girls and guy solo, i believe that song is why im going to watch you again and again.

so now that ive said what ive had to say about the groups, i wanna talk about the results. Show choir is really opinion, which really is why i love being in it. Its alot easier in basketball or football to say who the winner is, because u count how many times they but the ball through the hoop, or how many touchdowns they scored. But in show choir, its all about how you do things. Personal preference is what makes entertainment great. Having a difference in opinion is a god given right, and i think that what ever you think is the best, is the best. I personally believe we did a great show, and the judges thought so too. All the groups in finals had a great show, i saw all of them but one. Also, not being 1st isnt the worst thing. It would be worse to not see other groups or perform your self. Seeing other groups succeed helps everyone to become better. To all the groups, however you were placed, really great job. My expectations off all the groups were highly exceed. hope to see you all again this year.

tim

Tim.. Your totally right.
Show choir is all opinion and that's what makes it awesome
There never really is a definent winner its' left up to judges opinions completely.. so everyone has a chance to win everytime it rocks, you put out your energy and see what comes of it.
Every show choir i saw was amazing.. and i'm not just saying that. Everyone deserved to be 1st place within they're style. Jefferson always has an amazing Classic Set, Totino has a mind blowing choreographed set every year and then Hastings brings out the musical theatre aspect, just to name a few, and they all are mind blowing! So more then anything i really hope this season we can all support eachother and have a ton of fun at competetions. Tim, you are a smart smart guy lol
Much Love Show CHoirs!
