Thanks for the comments! I think its interesting to find out other people's initial perspectives about the show. I do agree that it seems kinda weird that we say "we hope you will enjoy the show" more than half way through it

I agree, you guys should have made finals, that might just be becasue im a beatles fanatic though and have wondered about doing a beatles themed show. one thing that i did not like in your show though was the number of ballads.(I think there were 3?) It made the show kind of boring after a while.

Hastings, I was kind of dissappointed, I was expecting a little bit more. But you were still absolutely amazing and I loved the opening solo.

I would have put Mayville into finals.

I liked everything vocal-wise; good blend and dynamics. Some songs seemed a little short, but I understand that they had to be for time purposes. Personally, I think Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band would make a better opener, because you say "we hope you will enjoy the show..." yet it's halfway through. Liked the change you made with it for the bow though. And I'm not sure how much I like Hey Jude cranked up tempo-wise... I think it could work really well as an anthem-like closer if you leave it at the Beatles' tempo.

Mayville's show was my favorite of the half-day's worth of shows that I watched.

Okay...This is what Ive gotten so far...

Milton is doing pure imagination...(charlie and the chocolate factory? I think correct me if im wrong.)

Hastings is doing Michael Bubles "feelin' good"

If I have time later (and a program, since they all kind of blend together after a while) I may do some critiques--but the last show I saw was Celebration during the day, and I only saw partial Milton and partial Hastings from the side at night. What I'm getting at is, I didn't see a lot of the finals groups.

To whomever asked the question, the finals group was Holmen's mixed group.

Monona Grove, not Milton, does "Pure Imagination."

I didn't see Hastings, so I'm not sure, but I know Celebration has "Feelin' Good" in their show.

From what I understand, the point totals for finals were very close.

Speaking of finals, does anyone remember, during finals, after Milton's opener, hearing a big crash backstage? Yeah... we're sorry. One of Platinum Edition's trumpets was moving the keyboard stand for me and it got stuck and fell over.

Any other opinions on Platinum Edition's exhibition? From back there, it was a LOT of fog...

I know Tonal Impact was a hit; they meant to announce this before their performance, but in the excitement of the day, forgot. If anyone would like more information about the group or about their upcoming CD, send an email to [email protected].

Okay, so Hastings got best male soloist, right?

Okay, here's a little tid bit of trivia/interesting information:

For those of you who remember hastings doing "devil went down to georgia" two years ago, we had a grandpa and grandson (in footy pajamas!) with a little dialogue etc.
That same kid who played the little boy, Seth McConkey, two years later is Hastings' opening soloist (and viterbo's best male soloist) this year ("feelin' good")

am i the only one who's thinking "WOW!" of course, it could be cuz he's my friend's little brother, and i still remember him as "grandpa, will you tell me a stoooooory???"

damn, now i feel old!

Cedar Rapids Washington “Celebration”

• Great walk on! One of the few professional ones I had seen all day! Plus it was interesting and fun! Two thumbs up!
• Probably My Biggest Problem: Formations! They were very sloppy, which is bad because at times it can take away from your choreography because things won’t line up the way they are supposed to which in returns make your choreography look unclean when in return I believed it was, so stress formations this week I think that will REALLY clean up your show!

• Opener: Feelin Good First of all great song. Liked it a lot. The sound at the very beginning was very warm and powerful, it was really nice. Awesome soloist, but one thing she could do better, which I think would make her solo better would be to Command the stage more. If I remember right she was a smaller girl who was doing a good job with the stage but even more power and commanding in her solo would help a lot.(Formations)
• 2nd: Jump, Jive, and Wail: Great costumes and really nice choreography. However there is still that formation problem and the only other really thing that this song was lacking was the selling point. You didn’t sell it to me with your faces or energy, but did choreographically. So work on the faces and energy in that tune and it will come across 10x stronger and funner.
• Ballad: Make Our Garden Grow: The male solo was a little pitchy. Big formation issue on this one, there were people standing right in front of other people I missed like 10 peoples faces. Some of your girls were standing differently (little but yea). And great singing with an awesome note at the end. Did your Varsity do that ballad in the earlier 2000’s (I kind of remember it but maybe not)?
• Boys: Great Balls of Fire: Awesome and fun, but a couple of your boys looked a little awkward.
• Girls Now A Days: AWESOME! LOVED IT! Great sound, it was very rich and “sultry”. I really enjoyed the dresses (just not the white it kind of made me think you were getting married in the 20’s) but not big deal Loved it!
• Closer Sing, Sing, Sing: CLEAN! Awesome Job! I kind of didn’t understand the purpose of a tap closer however when you had no boys tapping (I love tap closers but if your boys aren’t going to just tap in a girls number because that’s what it kind of was). I loved the song and it truly was great. The vocals were nice until after the dance break when they lacked a little bit. I know its hard but its got to be there. Also AWESOME recovery to the girl whop fell at the end. If somebody had glanced away no one would have known it happened which is the way it should be.

• OVERALL CELEBRATION: Great Show with awesome costumes just a few “minor” things that will push your show over the top. Good Luck the rest of the year!

Hey! Congrats to all of the groups that made finals!! From what I saw everyone was outstanding for this early in the season, especially Linn-Mar and Hastings. I thought the competition was well run, and the two girls who hosted our room were awesome!

P.S. I really like Altoona's show this year. You're alway so creative and original with your shows. My favorite songs were definitely the big big stuff song, and the Reo Speedwagon song! I enjoyed watching you, and I can't wait to see you again throughout the season.

All I have to say, even tho we didn't make night rounds, one goal was to beat Broadhead to show that last year wasn't a mistake and taht we can "hang with the big dawgs", but I was disapointed in them because on two seperate occasions, I went to congragulate them and they were like, "Yeah right" and would walk off, and then my friend waved at them and said hi and they flipped her off... not good sportsmanship eh?

Probably some idiot freshmen. I have always known Brodhead to have great sportsmanship.

Congratz to Linn-Mar, I know I talked to Chelsea after finalists were called and told her I thought that they could have won it, guess I was right (yay for ONE thing being right).

I want to say thanks to all the Hastings people and Linn-Mar people who said congratz to Washington, and their thoughts and opinions about the group, it ment alot.

ANY thoughts on Celebration would be awsome to hear.

Hastings show ended with a AWSOME novelty number on school, and that was comedy, powerful and fun. CAN'T WAIT TO HOST YOU GUYS!

-Stolba-

PS- Glad to see you got my texts Jorge, it so happens that my mom shut off my texts right before I left for Viterbo, so I had to use my friends phone.
