Oh man, did I come off like I was being defensive. I totally did not mean to demean anyone or anything, I am an alum as well, and even when we did well I would ask these questions to other Pizzazz members. It was just a discussion that I'd had with other Show Choir members in the past. Purely conversational. I'm sorry if it came off any other way.
The question was, essentially - Would someone really step up to defend a higher "authority" I guess, if there wasn't some kind of connection between them.
I said it because we all know the things that were pointed out, but we often choose to ignore it when we get a "Raw" end of a deal. Am I still being confusing? I might just suck at articulating this, heh.

Hola! Thanks for the compliment! I try to have a positive outlook on it, because hurting someone's feelings is not my intent and not what I want to do. And remember: we are all doing show choir for a reason, BECAUSE WE LOVE IT!
And I couldn't remember Glory's name. My mom didn't write her name down on the paper because she couldn't hear her name being called. So, that's the reason why I didn't know her name. I've seen her several times, just never knew her name. But, now I know! Well, latta!~Ash
I really do not understand your questions Psychodonkey. Could you please clarify? To begin with, only 2 of the judges (who were ACTUALLY clinicians are from Pleasant Hill. If you read correctly, the other has done some choreography for us, and if you want me to go even further, Sandy Cordes has critiqued us before competitions, and we hosted Keith Currington's old choir...so...Oh gosh...they all have some connection to Pleasant Hill!) I can't really understand why you think I would be defending them, though, just because they are connected to here. If you've read any of my previous posts you might have noticed that I'm a peace keeper. I don't condemn any judges, choreographers, groups, etc. I give constructive criticism, but there is no way I would put them down for what they do.
I guess that's the closest answer I can give you. I just do not understand your question at all. I'm an alumni of Hillside, therefore I didn't even perform at this competition. I did, however watch all of the groups. That is why I have an opinion on the matter.
I keep reading your post and the closest I can come up with is that you think I am defending the judges because it was judging done at my HOME competition. Yes, it would seem to pose a bias, I suppose, but I'm not in the slightest. Do you not agree with the judging? Or are you just pointing something out to cause drama? I personally would uphold my opinion no matter what competition it were, or what judges.
Hopefully that answers your question, but I haven't the slightest idea if it will. Please let me know.
And I'm a fan of Pizzazz, so I hope you aren't making comments to offend me because you think I don't like you all.

I guess my question to the Hillside folks. If 3 of the clinicians had not been alumnists of your school, would you be so ready and willing to step up and present the obvious? While you are correct, is the only reason you're pointing it out the fact that 50% of the officials there happen to be of your same breed? I'm not putting you down, or questioning your ethics... but it does pose that interesting question.
I know I would step up to bat for a competition's officials if they were being shown in a bad light and they were from my school. While you are in the clever guise as members of a low placed show choir, we have to ask what motivations are driving you to just now start defending the love/hate relationship of the judges?

In my opinion, these judges know what they are talking about. All of them have been doing show choir wayyyy longer than any of us. They've all got their degree in music, and I'm guessing the majority of us do not. I'd say they are well qualified for the job, and just because they didn't go ahead and follow everyone elses standards doesn't mean they aren't correct in their judgements.

I wish my old show choir director at Central would realize times are changing and get on with implementing risers and costume changes in our set. He loves the traditional show choir standard or minimal set, minimal costumes and focuses on our vocals and choreography. I often wonder how we even rank in these competitions. Sure we can sing and dance ourselves to death and still be smiling as we collapse but, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to build the sets and change costumes so quickly. Kudos to all you choirs who do that so well and seamlessly.
