Wow, I'm glad Nick beat me to that post. I actually didn't make it out with a program because they completely sold out.

Just thought I'd say congrats to all the groups who performed. It was really a great day of performances. Special congrats to Sioux City East. You were definitely the best choir there and I absolutely LOVED your ballad. I've loved that song for a while now and that arrangement was great. Congrats to everyone, best of luck the rest of the season and hopefully we'll see you again next year!

Were there solo caption awards? After hearing Ethan's comment about unprepared soloists I was just wondering who the ones were that were prepared and good. I saw three great solos from Lincoln Southwest and one ok one from Gretna last weekend.

Keller Texas. I did NOT get to see you during daytime, but I was so happy to see you guys made finals because I wanted to see the infamous texas show choir. I personally felt the choreography was messy a lot of the time and the vocals were iffy, but the songs were fun and RAP IN SHOW CHOIR. That was absolutely fantastic. You guys had a lot of fun on stage. Interesting (in a good way) costumes. I really liked your show.

just replying saying that we don't have a novelty. Facade is what we go into after Masquerade but it's not our novelty.

Sioux City East. The headliners do something amazing this year with their choreography. They definitely utilize their hands. Opening their hands (ie spirt fingers, minus wiggling) creates an amazing effect in their choreography, and they emphasize it in their second song by putting on white gloves which clash amazingly with the black tuxes and gorgeous red dresses. Your vocals were nearly flawless, your choreography was wonderful. I loved the changes you made from day to night. In addition to the hands, I feel that east has the most effective ripples in their choreo that i have ever seen in a show before. They are so well thought out and they just draw you in. The Show Choir men novelty was my favorite of the day for sure, especially in finals when you incorporated the 'We Have Twilight 2, Ladies' sign. I died laughing. I had you guys winning from the minute you finished your first song in daytime. Just fantastic all around. My only worry is, though nearly perfect in every aspect, it's VERY traditional and nothing compared to last year. Extremely entertaining nonetheless.

im guessing because their show last year was so out of the box it was hard to judge compared to everyone else most likely and i know they got a lot of criticism from people about it.
just my guess
just my

Oh gosh, where to start. This was my first show choir competition of the year, and what a great one to go to. I arrived just as Ralston was going on, so I did NOT get to see them, but I saw the remaining groups during daytime.

you NEED to see Ralston! We've been underrated by everyone this year! We have a great show, and Westside was our first comp this year we didn't make finals at!

Oh gosh, where to start. This was my first show choir competition of the year, and what a great one to go to. I arrived just as Ralston was going on, so I did NOT get to see them, but I saw the remaining groups during daytime.

Lincoln Southwest - I loved the way you open. You start with the band center stage, showing how absolutely powerful your band is. Then you show your vocals, which were also very good. But after that, i felt the show dropped a few energy levels. To be honest, the show bored me greatly until BAM. I felt like i was in California in 1949. Gold, gold, gold! It was a great costume change and that tap. LOVED.
I felt your night time performance was leaps better than your daytime performance. I felt more energy in the rest of the opener and throughout the show. It was great finally getting to see you guys.

Elkhorn, Nebraska took me by surprise. The first 30 seconds of their show is something they must have worked on over and over again because it looked like they were going to be the new choir on the block. It dropped after that, but the show was still extremely entertaining and the audience loved it.

Iowa City West. Let me tell you i was immediately overtaken by the quality of your vocals. I was almost in shock at how great you sounded right off the bat. Absolutely fantastic. Your second number was just crazy and fun. I loved the tap. But what I loved the most, and i'll nominate it for my favorite show choir moment ever, was the transition between that wild, crazy, fun number and your amazingly soft, sweet, slow ballad. The auditorium was dead silent, your vocals were amazing, and I'm not gonna lie, tears and goosebumps all over. My favorite ballad of the year so far. I really liked your show. It sounded great and was just fun.

Gretna. I loved the a capella in the opener. I felt that Gretna lacked a lot of energy and facials. There is this tall blonde guy in the front a lot that i never saw smile once. I loved Don't Stop Believing. The lights that cast shadows on the walls are amazing, too, btu I wish you'd let them stay on more.

Lewis Central. I always, ALWAYS root for you, considering BJ is your director (gotta love that man). Your opener was very short, but clean. I felt that, like with gretna, your show lacked energy. Your front row has it, especially Andrew Gulden, but other than that.. it's pretty weak and makes your show almost boring. If i focus on the front row, then it's amazing. Hearing a Mulan song in show choir made me laugh. You guys did it well, though. Loved the a capella ending.

Millard West. I love your opening. Coming out with Masquerade masks and gowns on and dancing to Masquerade.. then the random parachute goes over your white and blue.. and BAM. when you appear again? GREEN. I LOVED that costume change so much. (so much i may or may not have recorded it during finals). Your novelty was.. interesting. NSync and Pokerface. Interesting. I Loved your closer, Pretender. ESPECIALLY when you all rushed the front of the stage and sang.. LOVE. To be honest, I expected you guys to finish a lot higher. I felt definitely in front of Keller. Oh well. I made friends with one of your mothers. It was fun.

Papillion I had in the same group as Gretna and Lewis Central. typically groups that have amazing energy throughout... but this year they were just lacking. The novelty was very amusing but other than that, the show was just bland.

Grand Island NW. Your opening was probably one of the coolest I have ever seen. The extra percussion by the group members was fantastic, and the gang battle was just awesome to watch the transition of with the drumming sounds. The ballad was my second favorite of the day. The violin was amazing (props), the duet was great, and the vocals were wonderful. I never thought i'd see 'I'm Yours - Jason Mraz' in a show choir show, but you guys made it work amazingly. And I had that song in my head the rest of the day. I just loved your show and had you guys a somewhat close second to East.

Some notes: A Capella sections were very big at this competition. Almost every group had multiple ones, and one group had one in every song.

Layers in choreography is definitely being emphasized this year. Guys up, girls down, etc. It makes for amazing pictures.

Bad soloists. I'm not trying to like make anyone feel bed, but i think there were a total of two soloists that even sounded remotely prepared. Granted it is January, but it was just a disappointment because the soloist ruined the song for me on a few occasions.

Mics. Daytime saw a LOT of troubles with soloists singing into microphones that were not on. It was kind of annoying, especially when you couldnt hear a soloist and then BAM IN YOUR FACE. There was a collective AH on two accounts I can remember.

Thank you Omaha Westside for hosting such an amazing competition. OH ALMOST FORGOT. WESTSIDE. I had never seen you before and oh do i regret that. Your show was FANTASTIC. I loved EVERY minute of it. So clean, so fun, so.. just amazing.

This was a great way to start out my show choir season and I hope to see these groups again down the road. Good luck to everyone on the rest of your season!
