GC: Urbandale
1st: Iowa City High
2nd: Cedar Rapids Washington
3rd: Totino Grace
4th: Davenport Central
5th: Iowa City West

whoa thats a crazy position.... lol i would definitely not put either IC High or CR Wash ahead of totino. i am in full respect of totino's vocals.... completely. i know its gonna be really close between city high and cr wash, so we'll see between those two. Davenport West got 8th at a tough onalaska. davenport central and ic west both just missed finals at their first competitions but i know will come back with a bang! my pretty blind predictions (ive only seen Totino-Grace)

GC: Totino-Grace
1RU: Urbandale
2RU: Cedar Rapids Washington
3RU: Iowa City High
4RU: Davenport West
5RU: Iowa City West

Best Vocals: Totino-Grace
Best Choreography: Urbandale
Best Band: Cedar Rapids Washington

Best Female Soloist: Samantha, Totino-Grace (she rocks my socks off)
Best Male Soloist: i heard the guy from Urbandale is amazing!

I would def not put Davenport West out of it! I know I'm prolly biased, but I thought they were really great! Especially their vocals.......even that they got 8th at Ona.........but I mean look at who they got 8th to! Don't miss their show...........especially feelin good..........that song was amazing!!

The scoresheet used for the past years is split 50% Vocals & 50% Show. Show includes choreography and band.

However, I do know that no official score sheet is set for this year because it may be undergoing change.

I'm almost 100% positive that its split evenly between vocals and choreography.

I don't think preps get to make finals. (Maybe if their score is high enough, but, none did last year.)

I can't even begin to list finalists... the only two I am confident on are Totino Grace and Urbandale. With the odd time slots... I couldn't say much more.

i think the time slots work great. gives more chances of not as well known choirs to perform for bigger audiences. there were some requests from directors to perform after a certain time because of other school activities also (speech etc...)

Finalist In Order:
Totino Grace "Company of Singers"
Urbandale "Studio 2006"
Cedar Rapids "Washington"
Davenport Central "Central Singers, Inc."
Iowa City West "Good time Company"
Iowa City High "4th Avenue Jazz Co."

Now that I realize it, its exactly what Jay said.. *shrug* Oh well.

Jay, if I give you money, you BETTER get me a DVD (if they have them). But, i would come with momentum and vivace but, i have another comp that date.

i know CR Washington's time MUST be changed because of the state speech team. we purposely put all of our speech stuff in the early morning so that we could come to Johnston in the afternoon....

i am also very unhappy that we got 2RU last year and we have to go at 10:40

also i am very surprised that only one group has put us in finals... especially since most people have been going off of last year and we beat many of these groups last year. the only one we didn't beat was Urbandale. and we didnt face Totino-Grace or Davenport Central, even though we beat a ton of groups that beat Central. i understand that the weird times would put us at a disadvantage but i think we are capable of beating any group. thats just what i think. i dont know exactly how placings would go but i think these groups will make finals:

Totino-Grace
Urbandale
Cedar Rapids Washington
Davenport Central
Iowa City West
Iowa City High

this is completely based on who beat who last year. These groups beat all of the other groups and thats why i have them in finals.

There are a group of 52 competing choirs. Plus 2 exhibition performances. The writing of the schedule must accomidate many factors; moving the HS judges over in time for dinner and finals, breaks for judges throughout the day, lunch for the judges as well as the competing choirs and visitors. And then this year, Iowa High School District Speech Contest. The running of this competition, we feel must be sanctioned by the Iowa High School Music Association. In their by-laws, they state, that if another state originized and run event is being held on that same day, the schedule of the state run and orginized event must be worked around. Which brings me to the point of the set up form. If a person were to look at the set up form, it would be noted that it asks the person filling out the form, to check a time for those involved in state speech. The choices were; before noon, early afternoon, mid afternoon and late afternoon. Therefore the creation of this schedule, was worked around the District Speech Contest. If we had not adhered to the speech contest requests, we would be shut down.

Ha, I'm very excited everyone likes the word 'snarky' as much as i do.

As for the schedule, I think I remember having to check something about not being involved in some Iowa high school district speech/ debate thing or something when I filled out our forms. I'm guessing there's some sort of event that day that would involve kids from attending groups?

And I will attest to the fact that it's incredibly difficult to put a schedule together to accomodate as many groups as possible, while keeping the schedule "fair" and "logical". It's also really hard to keep personal biases out of it, and not be... well, snarky.

Haha.

I remember this exact same issue coming up about LAST YEAR'S schedule too. Actually - doesn't this topic come up for ANY show choir schedule? It's never a perfect science.

Anyway - I had to point out last year that much of the timings were due to there being that whole other performance center outside, accross the parking lot for prep groups etc. at the high school auditorium. I know last years schedule was really easy to see that the varsity choirs in the morning for the most part had their prep choirs in the afternoon, and vice versa.

As for this schedule? Well - I noticed that both of Urbandale's groups are actually in the afternoon - so that sort of shoots my theory down that worked so neatly last year! So I have no idea - other than there are probably a thousand other things going on that day, and gee - just about every contest would love to accomodate anyone and everyone, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

You know - I'll shut up now, because I just have no idea - and I've made that much clear!! HA!! But I too love the use of the word 'snarky'... Well done Ana!

Another reason also could be a speech and debate tournament on that same day.

Anyone know who's judging?

I don't understand why Cedar Rapids Washington is so early when they finished 2nd Runner Up last year. I guess I like to see competitions use the "make finals one year, later start the next." But, I guess that's just an opinion.

I also could be a little moody about having to go at 9:40... when we were supposed to go at 3:30 last year (but we cancelled due to the craptacular snow).

Jorge, I have to ask- why is the schedule bothering you so much? I'm just curious, I promise you I'm not being snarky.
