Just Wondering... what does everybody think it takes to win best vocals? Im not sure we (Iowa City West) actually deserve best vocals, but i can't say that we dont think our choir can sing pretty darn well and floor people while doing it. I was just curious to hear from everybody what you think it takes to win the best vocals award.

Totino....you guys (and gals) are a class act. I really enjoy competing with you because your group is so supportive and friendly towards all the other groups. Totino is one of those groups from outside of Iowa (along with Mt. Zion, GCS, Onalaska) that you see on the list of competitors and go, "Dang! We better work a little harder leading up to this one." We do have a little bit of a home field advantage at Johnston since we are like 5 minutes away from there, but you have plenty of dedicated parents and fans that travel with you to create a home away from home field advantage.

As always Mr. Voss and Company put a very entertaining show on the stage. Congratulations and we'll see you in a little over a month when we attend your competition. Our students are very excited for the trip and a chance to get to know some of the members of CoS better.

JOHNSTON-I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! Those first outfits that the girls wear are so cute! your vocals are so good! the ballad almost made me and a few of my guys friends cry! lol " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> It's one of those songs that makes you want to hug your parents, especially after the way you sang it " border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> Thanks for hosting and way to go!!!

im really glad you liked their show. they have been working hard the last few weeks especially working things out. i hope everybody gets to see them later on in the season, because they will have an additional song after "Open up the Sky", and also a new ballad. sorry if you really liked the last one. but if u loved that one, you will be floored by this one! hope u all had fun

Wow what a competition!
Urbandale-You guys are so awsome! Your vocals and energy just blew me away. Also I have to admit that it was a little scary to go on stage knowing that 3/4 of that theater were most likly hoping you would win.

Thank you to all the Johnston people for hosting this great competition because all of us had a lot of fun !

And Jorge-that dream thing...kind of creepy, but hilarious!! " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> and you mentioned all the captions excpet Best Band, which we won yay (FYI) lol

Yah so far some people have understood our novelty, others haven't. It's a mixed bag. There has also been some confusion about the pope-some people have gotten the impression that we are mocking the pope, but we're really doing the exact opposite. I didn't really understand why people didn't like it-especially because we're from a Catholic school, but I guess that some would say that the fact that he's in the show at all is offensive, because of the nature of some things in show choir, but I guess we have to take everything that comes at us

I didn't mention "Best Band" because I really was clueless to who should have recieved the award.

I like the Pope bit... but I can see where some might take it offensively. It's all a matter of opinion.

I can't wait to see it - I heard it was just classic (and not at all offensive). As I've been telling some other folks, you just haven't lived until you've offended the memory of every dead Irish grandparent! (referencing Johnston's 'controversial' opener from last year).

I had such a great time yesterday!!! that was definitely super fun-too many people in that building though I am definitely in love with Iowa groups-your singing is so pretty and you all perform so well-it made me happy for the whole day " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I didn't get to watch a whole lot of groups (partly because of setting up and stuff and also because they stopped letting students in the auditorium-but I did see the TV in the cafeteria).

URBANDALE-I just want to say congratualtions on an outstanding show!!! You were absolutely amazing!!! I love your band (who doesn't love the band? " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ) and I loved all the energy you had. The guy soloist in "Summertime" was so awesome! That was really cool. And your ballad is probably one of my favorite songs of the year-the soloist was wonderful and I was just smiling for the whole song After it was done all I could say was, "That was so...beautiful." lol " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> All of your choreography is so unique-in a good way, of course. It was nice to see some stuff that isn't the same as all the other groups. GREAT JOB! I hope I can see it live sometime
" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
DAVENPORT CENTRAL-I really enjoyed your show It could be cleaner in places, but overall, you did a realy nice job. Your ballad was really pretty too

LEWIS CENTRAL-Your show was really fun to watch I jumped in my chair when I saw "Move Out"-we did that a few years ago and Mike Weaver choreographed it-I really like that song, but felt that if you picked up the tempo a little bit it would really improve your energy for that song. Great show (and I loved your ballad too!!!)

JOHNSTON-I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! I just want to say thanks to Johnston for a nice competition! Although it was a little crowded, it was a lot of fun.

Urbandale-WOW! You guys have amazing energy, and your vocals are top notch like last year! There were like electrical waves coming off the stage during your closer...awesome job!

Wow! Great competiton. A couple of my firends and I drove up for finals as spectators after we finished with Large Group Speech contest in Sioux City. It was a really great line up in finals!

-Totino-AWESOME JOB! A well deserved win. Your show was fun and entertaining and your girls number(Beyonce) was hot. That was defiantely the highlight for me. The drum line was sweet and it rocked!

-Congratulations Iowa City High! Great come back this year I am glad to see you back on top after the little dissapointment you had last year(along with us)!

-Iowa City West - GREAT vocals. They were solid and consistant and you definetly deserved to be up there with all the others!

-DAV. CENTRAL! Congratualtions on making finals. I am so happy for you! Your show was good last weekend at Linn-Mar but the improvement I saw was HUGE! It rocked. AWESOME show and I loved your ballad(and I would love to see it again - sometime in February if you know what I mean)!

Johnston you also rocked the house. I loved your OPENER! It was awesome and you had such strong vocals and energy throughout! Congratualtions!

AWESOME competion everyone did great and placements I think we very fit. GOOD JOB to EVERYONE!

I will say something before I go to sleep.
I love novelties. But, I didn't really laugh at any of them ALL day.

Except... Totino Grace and the POPE. That was my highlight of the day. Thanks Totino for getting me to crack up!

Curious, is that pointing a finger at anyone specfically? I didn't see any of that going on in here. And, actually, rarely do I see any of that. That seems like an almost out of place statement. It's just that, your whole post relates to something...just not that statement lol. Enlighten me.

huh?

Totino Grace:
I watched you guys again this week, and I have to say the show grew on me. A lot. I thought your ballad was amazing, and while the second song still isnt my absolute favorite, for some reason this week the intent of it seemed much more clear to me. Your vocals this week werentquite as strong as last weeks, but they were still quite good, and your smoke during rinals rocked. I loved your dancing, and i have basically undergone an about face in my opinion of your show. Great job, you guys deserved this one.

Davenport Central
You guys were much better at night than you were during the day. In themorningyou did not have nearly as much energy, and it showed. I enjoyed your show, but i thought that the tap number needed some work. You had decent vocals andyour dancing impressed me. Good job, keep it up.

Lewis Central
Again, good job. (every group here was soo good) Your sohw interested me, i loved your song selection. I think that you guys need to work most on keeping moves sharp and clean, i noticed that as an occasional problem in your show. You had great energy, and you seemed to really have fun. Once more, it was great, good job.

Iowa City High
What a bounce back from last year. THis year you guys are really one of the best groups i have seen. Your choreography is extremely classy and still sharp and clean, plus your vocals have finally come together, good job netting the best vocals award. You guys are in for a great season, i love your show and you were great sports as competitors also. good job.

I saw a number of others that didnt make finals, but i guess i cant really write much about them cause it is late and my mind might just be a tad muddled. haha. but really, this was such a fun and awesome competition, i feel so happy just to have made finals here. Everyone did an outstanding job.

Hush.

I had an amazing show choir dream last night. The show choir was Totino Grace "Company of Singers". The show was amazing. The opener was some disco thing (almost like our closer, but 10 times cooler). They had like 60 people on stage. Fog. Strobe lights. It was really neat.

The only weird thing was the ballad. I don't know what the song was. But, it was some love song. Everyone was in a girl guy couple. At random moments in the beautiful song, couples would kiss eachother. It was really weird.

Show choir dreams rock... especially when they are about other schools!

I think the 60 kids might be true, but thats just what I heard this funny guy from Chicago...
