Beavercreek, way to come back from a slow start last week! A good showing at a very tough competition, and I'm hoping you feel back on track. Looking forward to seeing you guys next week and keep plugging away until then. God Bless, Damon

yeah im positive this isn't the only comp that does that. and my group has gone to comps in the past that did that and actual individual types of judging and they always pretty much came out the same.

i completely agree, whether caption judging or not, the best choir almost always takes home the Grand Championship in the end.

I agree with that completely. I was wondering how a college Acappella choir director knew ENOUGH about good show choir choreography to make good judgements about the groups there. They may be educated in the type of dance that Findlay does, but not so much Hurricane. And even if Tara is as good of a dancer as you all say, how much background (other than being in a show choir herself) does she have in vocals. I geuss thats the point I was trying to make before.

PS: I'm not saying findlay shouldnt have won, cuz they were amazing!

Many, many competitions use scoring where everyone judges all areas. You get choral people juding choreo and vise versa, and somehow it all evens out in the end.

If this competition had used a caption scoring system, where each judges their own forte, I am quite positive the results would have come out the same way. It looked right to me!

in my opinion the problem with the judging at cuy falls was each judge had a specific background but was asked to judge the whole show no their specific area

i like the bios (lol, sarcasm-don't go off on me!)

I miss Tara, she was our new choreographer for my group from 10th grade and really helped and changed our style all the way to my 12th grade year, and i loved her every year!

If you're reading Tara, this is Brandon and i miss you!!

To me it doesnt really seem like any of the judges were very qualified for judging show choir.

That quotation is what prompted my response. Just wanted to be sure that people on here were not getting misinformed about her abilities!

I dont think he was talking about Tara, as she's a very established clinician, but I do have to disagree with the him for the most part, Brad Rees who is also a very established adjudicator, was one of them and is a very good one at that, But I've never heard of the instrumental adjudicator. Ronald E. Miller was also an adjudicator and has been as well is a show choir director. He directors the college choir at WVU I believe. He used to direct Heritage SHow choir in VA.

I would bet on "Livin' on a Prayer" to be next year's opener

Man, I think I would die if that was the opener for you guys next year.. of JOY!
Wow that would be ah-mazing.
Bon Jovi is my absolute favorite, and You Give Love a Bad Name is a GREAT song, but I'd have to say Livin' On a Prayer is my FAVORITE.
Man you guys rocked.

I can assure you that Tara Tober is more than qualified to judge show choir, and has on many, many occasions. She choreographs for many groups, is a very accomplished dancer based in Chicago, has been a clinician at show choir and performance camps, and was a show choir member in high school.

not sure on the names, but the judges consisted of Cuy Falls choreographer (I know her name was Tara Tober), two College acappella choir directors, and the instrumental judge had experience in directing 5th grade band at Cuy Falls. To me it doesnt really seem like any of the judges were very qualified for judging show choir.

This was a VERY good competition. I believe the judging was very fair and Findlay did deserve it all the ran away with that competition no one could touch them.

and i will say this it was the first time I have ever been to a competition when all 6 groups in finals WERE AMAZING and any one could have walked away with the GC.

Did we ever figure out who was judging this one?

Findlay is so good at what they do. It's really cool to see their old director directing the band, too. Hurricane has the coolest set, and their first costume is pretty and unique!

Great job everyone!

they'll improve. as an alumnus of the M's, it WAS hard to watch them. however, their directors are very talented (albeit inexperienced with show choir). i think that once they're given a year or two of adjusting, they'll really be back in the game!

I think you're right. It may be a rebuilding year for them, but they are working with the right people now.

Hard to believe that one person can completely destroy such a strong program in one year, but there you go.

First off, on behalf of the majority of express i would like to apoligize for any negitive or rude comments. There were a lot of things i really liked about everyone who made finals and i can defenitly see why those groups made it.

On a side note: Hurricane I LOVE your show, bon jovi and journey are two of my favorite bands and you execution was amazing, I was super impressed!

True...and if I'm not mistaken, there are only two or three members in M's that have had show choir experience. Brand new directors, a whole group of inexperienced kids that don't know show choir. Thats about as green as it gets.

If the directors are good, hopefully they'll improve.

they'll improve. as an alumnus of the M's, it WAS hard to watch them. however, their directors are very talented (albeit inexperienced with show choir). i think that once they're given a year or two of adjusting, they'll really be back in the game!

(as a side note: the old M's director was fired because he was extremely violent and extremely irresponsible with our finances. he was very talented, but he didn't have the maturity or integrity to back it up. also, CF administration was pretty ticked when he destroyed our show choir rep to go with the vocal jazz crap.)

(another side note/disclaimer: these do not reflect the opinions of the cuyahoga falls school district or the choral department, just my own. thought i'd just throw that in there to save my butt. )
