To everyone who is accusing the Classic of giving them "special" treatment when it comes to them going WAY over time. Friday night Clinton came to the school to drop off their set, props, and costumes. While there Mr. Fehr and the tech head and Tech leader came together to discuss Clinton's set. Due to the complexity of the set, each pillar weighed close to 500 pounds. Our tech leader ruled that it fell under Safety Regulations and came up with a compromise with Clinton. Their set had a system of counter weights in the basses and would make it impossible to get up the ramp SAFELY! So they were allowed to take apart their set and take out the counterweights and take each tower onto the stage piece by piece without being timed. They were ONLY allowed to do that and were only allowed a SET place on the stage. After their set was in place on the stage, they were THEN timed. However, it IS true that they were penalized ten points for going over their alloted time.

Please do NOT accuse others of wrongdoings when you don't know what the entire situation is!

This is something a Fairfield Alumnus and I were discussing.

My question is, is did they actually get to perform on the stage on friday night when they dropped off their stuff

Yes, thank you ma'am!

Yes thank you! I am very sorry if I unintentionally hurt anyone's feelings or seemed rude. That was never my intent. It is just very hard to sit idly by and let someone crack on kids you have come to love and respect as much as your own. One day you all will be parents and I hope you install in your children the same respect and passion that you show on these boards. I am very proud of our kids and the show they put on. If I came across a bit harsh I sincerely apologize!

Thank you very much for the compliment. We have worked very hard this year, just like every other group. I am shocked at the posts on the Crystal Classic since Sat. night. There was amazing talent there this weekend from many groups. I applauded each and every one. They deserved it. But I am not proud of what I am reading. It has cheapened the whole thing. All of you should be so proud of all that you have accomplished this year. There is all this bickering about who applauded who, and should you stand, should you not. Do you realize the right now, there is a show choir, fellow brothers i might add, who has LOST members of the group. GONE! In a flash.....You never know when something could happen to you and your group. Stop the bickering! You should feel lucky if you were able to see all the talent this weekend and extremely proud of yourselves if you competed! You are all so fortunate to be alive and able to even do this. AND SOOOO TALENTED!
Good Luck this weekend at states and looking forward to seeing you and your kids again!

Yes, thank you ma'am!

if her name didn't give it away, she definitely is a mom- bickering is a mom word.

regardless, she makes good points- like moms do- and we should stop arguing over what appears to be mostly trivial things.

-congrats to clinton and everyone else on one of the biggest contests I've ever seen or heard of.
-hurricane's choreo is fine. whether you like it or not, they do it well and it gets them trophies.
-stand up if you liked the show, but if you didn't, clap anyways, out of respect.

i hate to kill the conversation like this but everyone's getting so angry...

Obviously the judges felt that Hurricane danced enough to be in finals and if I'm not mistaken they danced enough to win grand champs at your competition this year (Cuyahoga Falls). I respect your opinion however referring to Hurricanes choreography as a "little girls dance recital" is completely rude and disrespectful. Judging from their overall placement at every competition they compete at I would say that their choreography is obviously working for them. Congradulations Hurricane for another impressive placement. We are very proud of you over in Nitro. Your choir and parents have always been supportive of our program even when our show wasn't at it's best. We couldn't ask for a better neighbor.

I guess no matter how spectacular the competition, people will always find something to complain about. Are you really that starved for drama that were fighting over who stood up for who? This is by far the most idiotic conversation I have read in a long time.

Once again, this arguing seems pointless...

Parents do not speak for choirs, please take what they say with a grain of salt. Like I said earlier, when I witnessed a member of a group talking on here right now saying they hoped the members of another group died on the way to the competition, no one on here is an official spokesperson for their choir.

Let's just end the incessant arguing. I'll clap when I want to, stand when I want to, and I dare to be lectured on that.

I still love show choir

Man, from the sound of things, this competition was INTENSE! It seems like there are a lot of conflicting opinions about how good a group's show was, but hey, that's normal. The groups that went to this comp are some of the top groups in the country! I wish I could've been there. Thankfully, I'll be able to see some of them at Nashville. I'm so excited!

Up in Minnesota, its like, routine or something to stand up after a performance. I'm not sure whether its out of genuine appreciation for a group's show or just to stretch your legs, but for me, I do it because I feel that each group gave there all. If I really love a show, I start screaming, jumping up and down, etc. At least this is how most of the kids act. Some parents don't stand up, but I don't take offense to that. Everyone has their own views about standing ovations, and that's ok, right?

Oh, and Mike Weaver's choreography is amazing.

If that is the case then a standing ovation becomes just as common as general applause. Look, I appreciate all the efforts of all the choirs. God knows when I was a kid I would not have worked as hard. I was a football player and I can honestly say you guys work even harder than we did. I will however continue to stand and applaud those shows that I feel deserve it. I think you do a disservice to the truely outstanding performances by treating them the same as the mediocre.

How do we give a disservice, just because we stand up and applaud. They cant see you anyhow, and probably dont care, because they are tired, and the lights are really bright... but standing up and clapping just shows how much you respect them, and what they do.... we should end this discussion now... everyone should agree that everyone did a good, or great, or fantastic job... good luck to all for the rest of this year, and next, i give you a STANDING OVATION

Sequins07... so you edited your post before most could see it. Good for you. I happened to catch it and laughed quite a bit. The extremely low level of maturity in your post was shocking. I think that it could be an all time low for the SCC boards. Congrats... you win!

This is my second year working with the Cuyahoga Falls show choir, and we have had no member associated with our group by the name Joelle.

Even if this poster is an alumni that I have not met, please disregard him/her as having a connection with Cuyahoga Falls High School at this time.

Sequins07- if I'm wrong, I apologize. Stop by sometime and introduce yourself. Would love to meet you.

thanks,

Tara Tober

Hurricane- you guys sing amazing. I think if any group danced as little as you do, they could sing as well too. All of the choreo looked the same and reminded me of a small town little girl dance recital. but there were about 5 very talented trained dancers that showed some very impressive technique and flexibility.

For me, and a few people i have attended competitions with, will clap for every group, and I will stand up, but if I stand up, I will stop clapping, unless it was wonderful.
I think standing-o's are too much of a given thing now, and feels like they are "demanded" of spectators.

With the instance of standing O's for solos from kids from that school (i.e the prep group) is just getting insane this past year.

Way to go to Marysville and EEE!

I agree totally with you. Every choir deserves respect and support. That being said I still believe that a standing ovation should be reserved for a truly outstanding performance. As I said in another post, if you give one to everyone based on participation then you kind of cheapen it. At any rate, we are obviously not going to agree so at least allow me to wish Poca good luck at the WVMEA this weekend.

i just think that it kinda tells the group that just performed, in a way, 'you aren't good and don't deserve a standing ovation' as i'm sure they realize that they're not as good as the clintons, john burroughs, burbanks, or the other powerhouses...thats all...but thank you for the well wishes and good luck to hurricane as well...also, i apologize for any personal feelings of attack, as i did not mean any direct harm to the parents or the choir

Did you even watch our kids show? They dance and sing at the same time. I was also wondering just what is your definition of dancing? I hate to break it to you but our "small town little girl dance recital" has 3 grand championships, one 1st runner up and one 3rd runner up. Not bad for a bunch of little girls!

I am soo excited that I was able to be at Fairfield finals on saturday!! Let me just say, I am still speechless.

Attache- I don't know how, but you guys have done it again! I am still getting over my chill bumps! This year's show is amazing and ties with my favorite (2003). This was my first time to see them live. I cannot believe that they are high school students. The show is so creative and flows so well. I feel sorry for any group attempting jersey boys this year because i certainly would not want to be compared to attache. Every person I saw wearing an attache shirt (including the parents) was so classy and friendly. Their members are gorgeous!!! Freebird is my new favorite show choir number. april james is a genious. I can't believe that any group would have as many incredible guy soloists. There is a featured girl soloist with dancers and she sings dream girls "and i am telling you". talk about WOW. this girl will be a famous singer one day. From the front row to the back row the performers are professional and pour their hearts out. Everything about the show was so original. The sets and costumes are AMAZING! The guy's number has 50's style mics and turning bases that a few of the dancers stood on. I don't understand how the choreography can be so perfect and well executed and they still are able to sing amazing throughout their whole show. Thank you, Attache! Congrats on winning just about all there was to win on sat.

EEE- I would have had you in second. I loved your show and thought that you danced circles around any other group that placed 2nd - 6th. I love your closer dresses!! I want one.

Marysville- You guys sang really, really well. It's too bad you hardly dance your opener. I felt like the performers were "marking" it to be honest. In my opinion, choreographically the only group in finals that you should have beaten is hurricane. The girl soloist is incredible. I really like the closer. Overall, however this is not the choreography i expected from steven todd.

Hurricane- you guys sing amazing.

Norwell- Considering the number of performers, you have a great sound. I LOVED the guys number soloist!

Findlay- Congrats on making finals.
