Best Male Soloist from Diamond Bar was Dylan Lee. Happy that FAME was able to have a great inaugural "Show Choir America" event this year!

Is that a normal thing at a Fame comp? makes no sense.

It seems like an odd thing, but it actually isn't all that uncommon at competitions. There are still a decent amount of competitions in the midwest that base the caption awards off of daytime scores even though they are announced in finals. It is most common in competitions that move from scores to ranking only for finals.

The caption awards are based off of prelims because we want the choreo expert judges choosing Best Choreo and the vocal expert judges choosing Best Vocals. We use Sum of all Scores during the prelims and Consensus Ordinal ranking during the finals. We apologize for any confusion. This has always worked best in the past as we have held show choir competitions for over 20 years.

Do you happen to know who the rest of the judges are? I have a hard time believing that Kevin Chase was the only judge

And show design was off of finals, choreo off prelims? Nonsensical...

Captions were based off the day round results! Totally my mistake! Duke Ellington took both captions!

Immediately after seeing that Duke Ellington won this competition I had to try to find video. After watching the videos that I found (many of them of the group from past years) I am not surprised at their win here. They can really SING and they are very entertaining to watch. If this year's group was anything like what they have been in the past they must have been amazing. I hope I get to see them in person one day.

Congratulations to Duke Ellington! A special shoutout to their director Monique Holmes! We went to college together and I'm glad to see she's back at her alma mater.

Quick clarification, Voyager was 3RU? FAME shared that Learning Foundation was the fourth finalist earlier. Did they have their own info wrong?

I kind of find it neat how most of the states that will be represented here aren't necessarily known for show choir or have little to none of it in their state. I'm interested to see how some of the "rookie" states/groups stack up against each other as well as against the more veteran groups.

I bet that will be the real fun (and educational) part of this competition for the students and parents attending. The diversity of show choir, obviously each from a different state, but also the distinct style each one brings.

Some of the "rookie" groups/groups folks on here might not be familiar with, Duke Ellington and DeKalb, have attended a variety of competitions in the past. And then when it comes to states, there's a lot that happens that we simply just probably don't know about. North Carolina is on their 4th year of state competitions and Oklahoma had at least 2 show choir competitions this year, but it's just not super easy to get info from our OK folks.

Show choir continues to grow and develop in "new" areas of the U.S. and with that it's bringing different styles of singing and dancing. This event will be a good microcosm of that. Hope all folks attending have fun!
