I love the forums on this site because they give show choir enthusiasts an opportunity to give voice to their opinions.

Thank you for taking advantage of it.

Despite what captions show, the top 2 were very close points-wise!

In today's show choir world, caption awards are understood in a much different way than ever before. For example, Wheaton Warrenville South "The Classics" 2011 won their last two competitions in an eye-opening season as Grand-Champions, and yet did not receive either of the two (allegedly) most coveted caption awards - Choreography and Vocals. Among show choir competitions lately, this trend is not exactly new.

In my opinion, this type of competition outcome (groups obtaining Grand-Champion honors without either of the two most coveted caption awards) is most exciting for the show choir world. I say this because now more than ever, competitors, judges, parents, fans, and essentially anyone involved with show choir is asked to ponder - "What exactly do I (we) value about show choir? Why?" And even "Exactly how bias am I toward one group or another?" etc.

I was not at the competition today, and am 100% positive that the groups competing were extremely close point-wise. However, regardless of the outcome, I believe that show choir is truly developing and progressing as an art that cannot be so easily defined by a best vocals, best choreography or best band award. Wahoo!!!

Oh my goodness, I cannot tell y'all how weird, yet exciting this phenomenon is for show choir! Instead of understanding or perceiving the best show choir as one that possesses the best vocals, best choreography, or the best band, show choir is now able to be redefined through many different inquiries. Maybe now we can ask questions such as, "Why should I be looking at the stage?"; "What could the stage really look like?", "What kind of choreography, vocals, band, or show concept truly represents the art of show choir, or a show choir that is worth watching?" - jeez, who knows! From the multiple perspectives of individuals that have never experienced the show choir stage, these questions are incredibly vital!
*I love the forums on this site because they give show choir enthusiasts an opportunity to give voice to their opinions. I hope that in the near future, we can all read these forums through reimagined eyes - a fundamentally new looking glass so unique and revolutionary which allows us to bring show choir to a completely new level, and hopefully an entirely new audience.

To all of my fellow show choir fanatics: keep pondering, keep questioning, and keep the inspiration.

*Edit: change in voicing and grammar of my comment.
