Yes our tech truck left on Friday to head to Chicago so we wouldn't have any equipment to compete at SoCal.

It looks like Los Alamitos is going to Chicago for the Fame competition.

So from the new revised schedule, I saw today - no Los Alamitos "Sound FX"

So Diamond Bar, Carlsbad, and Bonita Vista are all competing in one Advanced Mixed Division. Same performance times, all in one division!

Can I add that this year, there could be a potential new champion at SoCal?

Los Alamitos has never held first place in this competition.
Bonita Vista hasn't held first place in tier 1 at this competition for a long time.

With Burbank's 9-year streak ending last year and both Burbank and Burroughs not returning, this could be exciting for both groups in Tier 1, and, along with it being the last competition, could force both groups to pull out all the stops.

Agreeing with the above comments, I have always had this weird perception that the big three come together in one last clash to end the season, and without that, the California seems somewhat incomplete.

I agree with Yankee. The competition itself wasn't anti-climatic or anything like that, just that their competition season ended so suddenly, without much notice (I think most people figured they were going to SoCal) and - compared to Los Al and Burbank - pretty early on in the season for the West Coast.

Oh ok, I can see the "ended so suddenly" aspect of it. For sure.

But I think saying they're wrapping up "pretty early on in the season for the West Coast" is a bit dramatic. They have their host competition next weekend which they obviously can't compete at and then after that they have a conflict for SoCal. Which is one week after their host competition. That's literally all that's remaining on the West Coast circuit.

At the end of the day, schedules are schedules and things happen. I wouldn't say it's anti-climatic at all really. I think this is a perfect example of "the show must go on." SoCal still sounds pretty high quality this year and there's a clear commitment from Mr. Atienza for things to work out better in the future!

What's anti-climatic about it? I feel like a major trip to the completely other side of the country is one of the coolest and biggest ways to wrap up...

Competitions differ each year, sometimes they're stacked, other times only a few groups go. Hopefully next year we'll have Los Al, Burbank, Burroughs and Brea all competing at SoCal. I like SoCal being the last competition of the season with all the West Coast groups competiting head to head one last time. And SoCal has always been a fun competition to watch on the LiveStream, especially last year.I'm sure this year it'll be good, too. Los Al is great (Also, are they going to Fame Nationals?) and Bonita Vista has shown they're a group that compete with some of the best groups.

SoCal has been traditionally the last competition of the season where everyone has refined their shows and Southern California all comes together for our last time to see each other before the season ends. The SoCal audience is like no other! The energy is out of this world and it certainly helps give the show choirs a whole new level of performance that we have loved for over 16 years now.

This year is an anomaly in regards to the advanced and women's division tiers. Our intermediate and novice division are healthier than ever though. Our notable judges for April 18 will be Allie Trimm (original cast member of 13), Thomas Schultheis (Disneyland) and Chad Alexander (Fame)!

Be sure to join us in 2016 when we bring back ALL of your favorite Southern California show choirs as we return to Golden Hall.

Have a wonderful end of the season everyone!

It may not seem like it as the West Coast forums are a bit inactive, but Powerhouse has been competing for the last two months and the only remaining options are Burroughs Music Showcase which they host and SoCal which Häakon said they have a conflict for. I don't know, I feel like attending four competitions is plenty reasonable and not that far off of average in general.

A lot of the students said that their boston comp was their last comp, so I do believe so.

It may just be an off year... things do ebb and flow from time to time. FAME Nationals has had more solid lineups in certain years than others as well.

Powerhouse ended up having a conflict (which is why they aren't coming but the other Burroughs groups are), and I'm not sure what's up with Burbank. But losing those two schools is a huge number of entry fees, ticket sales, and overall revenue, so I'm sure that's why they had to scale back and host at the high school instead. Kind of a snowball effect.

I'm certainly hoping this event grows back to where it was previously for next year, as it has always been one of the most fun competitions to attend on the west coast.

Complete schedule has been listed. A few notable changes this year:

The event for this year will take place on one day instead of two, and located at Chula Vista High School instead of Golden Hall in downtown San Diego.

Burbank will not be attending.

John Burroughs' "Powerhouse" and "Men @ Work" will not be attending, but "Sound Sensations," "Sound Waves," and "Decibelles" will.

Los Alamitos' groups, which initially had not been scheduled to attend, are now performing at this event.

Hi Michael,

Yes - due to the number of groups attending, this year's SoCal competition is smaller and being held at CVHS. It has also been reduced to one day. Here is some more information to assist you:

Schedule:

9am - Intermediate Girls
11am - Novice mixed
2pm - Intermediate Mixed
6pm - Boys, Adv Girls and Mixed Tier 2
9pm - Mixed Tier 1

Tickets will be sold at the door for $25 each until they are sold out.

Parents and supports are expected to purchase tickets. Those paying patrons will be allowed into the theater FIRST.

Performers, tech, band and Staff will be given hand stamps and will be allowed to view OTHER groups, but will be seated AFTER the paying patrons have their seats.

We will be clearing the theater after each division awards are done. You are welcome to stay to watch other groups!

Performance schedule/order to come.

That's the info I have up to this point.
