Thanks so much for everyone at Linn-Mar for an AMAZING competition! I love coming every year and this year was no different. Also, congrats to all of Totino, I love you guys!

Also, while their auditorium is super nice, its time to move it to their gym (which is also crazy nice).

Having been at four Supernovas myself, as a spectator and as a performer, I could not agree more. It's great to perform in that fantastic facility, but being denied admittance to the auditorium for the rest of the day (or waiting in line for over an hour to get in) is not what I think a competition day should be about. Accomodating the students should be as high of a priority as accomodation of the paying customers. After all, this is supposed to be a learning experience! Learning from watching other groups is incredibly valuable.

Besides, Linn-Mar's gym is also probably the best I have ever been in anyway!

Does anyone else think Linn-Mar has the most massively confusing school ever?

Also, while their auditorium is super nice, its time to move it to their gym (which is also crazy nice).

Day after thoughts:

This is just an opinion, but I thought overall, prep and varsity, Washington High School had sooo much more heart and energy than Kennedy and Urbandale. This is based off the day round. Washington made me want to get up there and perform with them! They looked like they were having fun, not just repeating what they were told to do. I am so excited I'm going to Fab Five just to see how much they improve by the end of the year.

I will definitely pass this along to DK. That is what Washington show choir is about, not arm movements pointing to the side and up and walking around to make different formations. It's about heart, and performing because we love it, and not being exactly like every other show choir (and they all looked the same yesterday). Thank you so much for the positive comments!

Totino Grace....WOW! That's all I can say. From the first chord they hit it is pure power without over singing. I keep telling people you have to see the show, there is just no explaining it. In their introduction I heard they are going to be performing on a Caribbean cruise and I was really confused. Then I saw the show and understood. They look and sound sooo professional and clean, but not fake. CONGRATS! Can't wait to see you again!

They are performing on a carribean cruise as part of a choir trip. It is a performance, not like a job thing or something they are doing professionally. Hastings does it every other year on a hawaiian cruise. I am so proud of TG. I was there on behalf of them and I knew they would pull it out!! Wow!!

I believe wash had 3 3 4 4 5 5. Bemidji had 2 4 5 5 5 5.

urbandale had 2 2 2 2 3 4 (unlike what chris said- i know wash never had a placing over urby so they could not have had a 5th)

that means Kennedy had 2 3 3 3 4 4

I love math.

Does anyone know prep scores?

Composite Scores ran like this-

Totino- 6
Urbandale- 15
Kennedy- 19
Washington- 24
Bemidji- 26
Souix Falls- 36

I know was got mainly 3 and 4th places. Some good vocal scores but didn't get to see the whole thing. Urbandale I know did get a 5th place, but Totino got 1's across the board.

For those who might care, I got a brief, two-second look at a finals scoresheet over someone's shoulder.

Totino was about 10 points ahead of Urbandale, Urbandale was about 10 points ahead of Kennedy, Kennedy was about 4 points ahead of CR Washington. That's about all I saw.

It was a great competition! My first competition in show choir and we won! I saw a lot of great groups, hard work, and dedication among all of the participating groups. TG Company hasn't won our first competition in many many years, let alone recive the high scores we received. we are so honored by what happened.

just WOW. What a day!

Totino Grace- Holy cowwwww! As i've been gushing about to Ana has been nothing but amazing thoughts! The show was so great, top to bottom. Vocals were superb. I couldn't stop watching the whole time. The closer was just so well layed out. And your ballad... speechless. It is a powerful ballad in general, and i think your amazing vocals this year really brings out the song. And all the soloists we great! You will do some damage on the competition this year!
and i have to say as ALWAYS totino parents are the BEST. We sat with a lady who still follows Totino around tho her daughter hadn't been in show choir for 4-5 years (glad to know other people besides me and jay do it) and then the mother of the red head in your choir.

Urbandale- The first half was really strong but then i felt like the second half started to drop a little bit, but then your closer really brought it. I can't wait to see you again at Kennedy this year and see how much more clean it will get!

Kennedy- I loved your ballad, the song in itself is great! It was a strange show to me, and i really like the closer. I can't wait to see the show again later on to see if it grows on me.

Bemidji- I liked the show! My favorite part was the girl song, what is the name of it? i've heard it on some movies and love it! The balloons looked like they were causing some issues in the opener so i hope that gets fixed. Great theme, and unlike some themes you see every year... you guys ALWAYS pill it off. Vocals were a little weak (to me) BUT your choreo was just great!!!

Souix Falls Washington- I had never seen you two until today and i liked what I saw! You were a good group and it was fun to watch. I loved the ballad! Good luck the rest of the season.

Cedar Rapids Washington- HOT HOT HOT. Yes, i went to school at Wash but still. WOW. I loved the show, it is stuck in my head. That ballad soloist is stellar! Such a good show. Loved the diction in all the songs as they are very difficult songs to sing especially two of them in foreign languages. I can't wait to see you at Kennedy and Great River, you can kick some serious butt! Oh and the band was rockin tonight.

It was a blast sitting with Jay and love show choir so much. Tho i can't believe i used to do these all day events and STILL had energy after wards, i went to finals and i am POOPED

First of all great to see some of the old friends again.

Also, I have to say that I think the judges got finals right on the money. All the way from 1-6. Totino was dominating, Urbandale was great as always, Kennedy stepped it up big time in finals, CR Wash has a great sound, Bemidji's show is fun and interesting (balloons and a door), and Sioux Falls was strong. Great showing everyone!

Anyway, I am so tired, and it is time for be..........................snore...............

Sorry but how the heck did the vitality group win prep? They were clearly the 3rd best group there, not even a question. The protege group was heads and tails clearly the winner!!!

the only results that I didnt hear:

Best Male Soloist: Miles Maurice, CR Washington (ballad soloist)

prep soloists (sorry i dont know names):
Female: girl from Kennedy novelty
Male: guy from Vitality ballad

LOVED finals. It was great. Totino was god of the competition. Vocals were just OUTSTANDING. The opener was sung so so beautifully. The closer definitely won you choreo. Sooooo good. I really thought the ice skating was major overkill in day round, but in finals it fit more with the choreo instead of just, WTF they are really ice skating right now? I'm so glad the judges got this one right and put you all in first. You really really really deserved this win. Congrats.

MO!!!! I'm so proud of you guys. What a great show, especially for the first competition. Jai Ho rocks my socks off. Work really hard the next few weeks and you will finish the year SO strong.

prep groups (cuz i promised chris i would )

I really thought these results were wrong... Protege deserved to perform in finals. They had the best choreo and IMO the strongest show. I personally thought Vitality was the weakest of the three preps. Celebration's opener was AMAZING!!!! and the vocals were so crisp and good. Each of your soloists were outstanding and really added so much to the show. I thought y'all had second in the bag. I must say Vitality did step up the energy in their exhibition.

Anyways, i'm so tired. Everyone today was just really great. Finals was a blast. and these prep groups are the best in the nation. so impressed by all the talent on stage today. just really good.
