Wow... this is kind of sad. From 28 Varsity groups in 2004... to 11 groups altogether in 2009.

I agree!

Oddly enough, last year, Mt. Zion was rather impressive at Onalaska (their first competition of the season) and won.

Onalaska usually has a lot of groups who are ready for the season to start, and Mt. Zion has always been one of those groups. But, from what I've heard are the judges, I'm not sure what the outcome will be!

Right, and I hope that it doesn't sound like I was taking a stab at Mt. Zion, they are a stellar group. In general, you never know what is going to happen the first week or two of the show choir season.

I've always felt that the first competition is always a toss-up. Everyone is getting used to performing their show in front of a crowd, they haven't been judged yet, etc...

If I remember right, Mt. Zion didn't make finals in their first competition last year when competing at Johnston. It just wasn't their day.

It comes down to who has been disciplined during practice these last few weeks. I wish everyone luck. Expect the unexpected the first week or two. Lord knows who will win.

yeah i had no idea we had competed against mt.zion way back then even though i have had siblings in it since like 1999. i'm surprised we did that well way back then even if we did lose to them by one place.....cool! even though im probably not as enthsiastic as others about weaver choreo, i MUST agree that the headliners are AWESOME. but it's unfortunately true like they said, anything can happen! :/ and i give them props for their "out-of-the-box" show (lol EVERYONE calls it that)

amen. i wasn't a huge fan of last year's out-of-the-box show- it was just really hard to judge against everyone else... but in 08 headliners blew my freaking mind. and mike weaver creates some of the best choreography i have ever seen. it is smooth and flowing and is VERY effective.

hmmm i'd have to disagree just a bit

GC-Mt. Zion(BC)
1RU-Hastings
2RU-CR Prairie(BV)
3RU-Sauk Prairie
4RU-Monona Grove
5RU-Neenah

no way sioux city east won't make finals over monona grove and neenah. not possible (unless we have another 04 on our hands....)

Interesting line-up, even if it is a bit... shallow. Here's how I see it:
GC - Hastings (BC)
1RU - Mt. Zion (Interesting matchup; I have no idea how to call these first 2.)
2RU - CR Prairie (BV)
3RU - Sauk Prairie
4RU - SC East
5RU - Monona Grove (this is basically random)

GC-Mt. Zion(BC)
1RU-Hastings
2RU-CR Prairie(BV)
3RU-Sauk Prairie
4RU-Monona Grove
5RU-Neenah

Indeed, it was 2004 when Mt. Zion won and Hastings got 1st RU. It's not surprising that someone who is in high school now wouldn't have known that though, as even this year's seniors would have been 6th graders back then.

dearest julio: last year at johnston Riverside placed 3rd RU and Mt. Zion didn't make finals....that's only the second time we've ever competed against them. 1st time was in 2008 at ona when we lost to them as 3rd RU when they were 1st RU. So it should be interesting! EEK! thanks for the well wishes everyone!!!!

oh alright thanks i forgot about that one.

you also forgot about Monona Grove 200(4?) when MTZ won and you got 1RU.

Really really really really excited for this competition. I've never see Mt. Zion live and am really looking forward to competing against them and enjoying their show. I've also never seen SC East or Neenah so not sure what to expect, but still excited none the less. We just got done with bringing Mike Weaver back for the second time this year. Really excited to perform our show to everyone and getting feedback. To sum this post up: I can't freaking wait.

19 days!

Sioux City East is another Weaver group and so Headliners and Ambassadors have done some similar songs over the years (surprise surprise). You don't have the same style of song selection, I would say Prairie tends to have a more "laid back" show, whereas Weber usually picks a more flamboyant show. Both great groups with great choreo and great vocals. I would probably give Prairie the band edge.

Last year Headliners chose to go with a more out-of-the-box show, and the judges didn't really know what to do with it, it was just so different from everyone else. This year I hear they have a more typical show, so I think it will be very close between you two.
