Well, well....this certainly puts Los Alamitos "on the map." A sincere congratulations to Sound FX and In Sync for finishing one/ two at what must have been a very close and exciting competition. Safe travels to all back to California. I wish I could have been there..!
And this just upped the intrigue for April 17 in San Diego (SoCal competition) about 100%. Can't wait to see Powerhouse, Sound FX, In Sync and Brea Masquerade go at it.. Can you spell "epic"?

I know you're being sarcastic, but to be fair, you probably didn't think you would hear Fireflies or Revolution in show choir (here's the music video for the latter). Kinda reminds me of the "Muse" stuff Burroughs and Burbank have done in the past couple of years. Go look up their FAME L.A. performance on YouTube; they're pushing the boundaries in their own way. I say congratulations and good for them!!

Yes, of course they are. I already discussed Fairfield at the top of the post, and then later, was showing results at big competitions (local or national) in recent years. Fairfield was this year.
Anyway, you guys are reading too much into it. The point I was making was that I think Burroughs, Burbank, and Clinton are all "the best of the best" and hopefully people will stop finnincking over who is "the true best" out of those three. The records show that they all have had extremely similar and nearly perfect results over the last four years and really only ever lose to each other, with a few sparse exceptions. None of the other choirs that I see most people throw up for contention have beaten any of them in that time frame, and that makes them all the best in my book. That's all.

I must say, I don't think anyone could have predicted those results, but I'm very proud of both Los Al and Burbank for performing so well this weekend! What a fantastic way to represent California. It's nice to see that "different" isn't always being interpreted as "bad." There is definite evolution happening right before our eyes!
As Ron Bolles will also be judging SoCal (though I have no idea what his personal scores at SCN were), as well as Lance Bass and Mark Walberg being complete wild cards, this could make for an extremely interesting end of the year competition out at SoCal. Can't wait to see how it all pans out!

A personal congratulations to Urbandale and Johnston. Being right next to eachother geographically and right next to each other in final results. A great job representing Des Moines and all of Iowa
And also a great job to the Ohio choirs who finished 2RU and 5RU. Great shows all around I heard.

Well, the winner between Burroughs, Burbank and Clinton, yes. Over the last handful of years, the results have been remarkably similar. As for competing against each other:
Burroughs went to a local competition in the midwest this year (Fairfield) and came in second to Clinton.
Clinton went to a local competition on the west coast last year (Los Alamitos) and came in second to Burroughs.
Burroughs went to a "national" competition in 2008 (FAME Cup at Chicago) and beat Clinton.
Clinton went to a "national" competition in 2005 (FAME Cup at Branson) and beat Burroughs.
You can't get much more identical than that.
Burbank has only competed against Clinton once: last year (where they came in third behind both Burroughs and Clinton), but with all three groups there someone had to come in third. Burbank regularly competes against Burroughs locally where they win roughly half the time. In the last 8 years, Burbank has won the SoCal competition 4 times to Burroughs' 3, but one of Burbank's wins was actually a tie that was broken by the music score. On top of that, in 2006, they both tied and the tie was not broken. Put it all together and you have another record that's, again, eerily identical.
As for proof of their domination elsewhere:
Burroughs has won Grand Championships at all of their "big" events in recent years: FAME NYC in 2009, FAME Chicago in 2008, and FAME Orlando in 2007.
Burbank has had a similar run: Grand championships at Franklin Central in 2009 and FAME NYC in 2008, and 1RU at Mundelein in 2007.
Clinton's "national" record hasn't been flawless in recent years; they lost to Burroughs in 2008 and 2009, and again to Hart at Sullivan in 2008. People keep wanting to crown one choir the "best group in the country," but I don't think one exists. I prefer to think there are three, and what order you want to put them in comes down to pure preference.
All of this makes tomorrow really interesting; can Burbank hold on to that status or will an underdog come from behind and take it? Their show is decidedly theatrical, and just like Burroughs, it's "too different" for some. With 4 points separating the top 4 groups, it's really impossible to call.

I love SCN. BUT the only thing I have to say I don't like is the fact that finals are so early. It doesn't give it that whole epic feeling of spending the whole day and then it's down the best of the best at night. Finals at like 9:00 in the morning just doesn't ooze epic like the dark of the night does. Sorry, just felt the need to say that :b
