Really cool insight, Terrell, thanks for posting.

This has been an interesting year for Ohio and Virginia. Virginia choirs have been really good about traveling to Ohio over the past several years (some examples with Atlee, Clover Hill, Cosby, Matoaca, Powhatan, perhaps some others). However, this year Ohio choirs Solon, Olentangy, and Fairfield all made the trip to VA. Solon swept and Olentangy took second at a weather-depleted Clover Hill competition while Fairfield took Virginia's "best" choir this year to a tie. I hope we continue to see more interaction between these two show choir states! A lot of Ohio kids have seemed to really love when Virginian choirs visit and likewise it appeared folks were impressed with what Ohio had to offer as well!

Overall it's really cool to see the VA show choir community be more competitive. I wish more VA students were on here! I'm also really proud of how well Fairfield did here. Fairfield's girls group doesn't often get to compete against other seasoned girls groups unless they travel to Indiana as girls groups are only just starting to develop in OH! Fairfield's middle school group also made a huge statement! Big congrats to those kiddos. Lastly, Fairfield Choraliers have had a weird season, in my opinion in terms of placements, but their artistry is just amazing to me. Hope Fairfield enjoys the rest of their East Coast trip and that VA enjoys their remaining comps!

I don't comment often on this site, but I do feel the need to say a few things.

First off, I think every group yesterday gave a performance of a lifetime.
Ohio definitely came with a guestion. However, Va truly came back with an answer!
Personally I feel Hanover out sang and danced Fairfield. That's the beauty of show choir...we are all entertained differently. I too thought the tie for GC would have been settled by vocal score as it has in the past, but that wasn't the case last night.

I'm very proud of Va show choirs and think both of Hanover's groups, Midlothaian, and Martinsburg did a fantastic job in their divisions; as did Menchville and Matoaca in theirs. Fairfield came and they were exciting and awesome to watch without question.
The face of Va show choir is changing and I for one am looking forward see what's in store for next year!

Yeah, I'm kind of confused about it. It also seems like all the captions were for ALL of the divisions instead of separating it up. I feel like most VA comps separate it for mixed/womens. I truthfully don't know. I imagine Fairfield must have really out-danced Hanover to achieve a tie if Hanover took vocals and band.

This comp was also supposed to wrap up like two hours ago... so I don't have a clue what happened here. Anyone want to fill us in?

Yeah... Kecoughtan has always had a habit of being really behind schedule. Last year it ended at 2 AM! But anyway, yes: the captions were split up among both divisions which I personally don't understand, but whatever! In my opinion, vocally: Fairfield and Hanover were both extremely close. I imagine the vocal scores couldn't have been but a few points away from each other (as well as band). But Fairfield's choreography was INSANE, so I think that's were the points were made up!

Again, I'm just a witness in the crowd, so this is just an educational guess. But Fairfield was the best show I've ever seen live without a doubt! But even saying that.. After watching them both, I couldn't tell who was going to win. They both have incredible shows and should be extremely proud! It was an honor to watch!

IIRC, most competitions will break GC's with best vocals.

Interesting that they didn't break a tie for GC.

I agree. Something I've never asked before - do most competitions do rankings to score finals, or do some go by points, like prelims? I'm curious as to what they did here tonight.
