I think East will do a good job. We have worked really hard and did an awesome job at Grove City. The only groups I have seen this year are Poca Winfield and Colerain. I'm totally rooting for Colerain on this one. Winfield beat us a Twinsbirg but we beat Poca.

Anyone who says Colerain is classy and good is my new friend...I'd like to think we could beat Poca and Winfield since we've done it all season except for Marysville. Plus we'll be coming off a competition in New York which will probably motivate us like Branson did last year. I can also say I'll be giving it the extra effort cause we won their last year and it's our last competition...I wanna go out with the "falsh bang" everyone in Indiana looks for

Gordon Crawford - Freelance Choreographer and former director of Homestead HS CLASS ROYALE

Gordon is the best! He used to be the director of our choir a long time ago, but obviously he has moved on to bigger and better things. He now teaches at a high school in tenessee or somewhere down south. He has judged our invitational for the past two years, and he always gives us pointers after our soundcheck the day before. He is just an amazing director, if there is one judge you guys want to listen to HE IS IT! Well, maybe aside from Jay Emerich, who is definatly the most reputable judge on this panel. I also believe Carroll's director will score Colerain well, cause Carroll is a pretty classy choir. I don't know about Melissa Stainbrook, but watch out for Jason Johnson.

I think the judging panel for this years Ohio Valley Showcase will be very consistent. All five judges are well-known throughout Indiana and Ohio and I think they will be very fair to each show choir. Most competitions seem to only have 3 or 4 judges, we will have 5. This should help to even out the scores. The judges are as follows:

Carla Doles - Director of Carroll HS MINSTREL MAGIC
Melissa Stainbrook - Director of Brownsburg HS SPOTLIGHTERS
Gordon Crawford - Freelance Choreographer and former director of Homestead HS CLASS ROYALE
Jason Johnson - Freelance Choreographer/Performer, Vocal Music Degree from Ball State, Choreographer for Carroll, Huntington North, Columbia City, Homestead, Brownsburg and Southwestern
Jay Emrich - Private Vocal Instructor and Freelance Choreographer from Indianapolis

We at Southwestern are very excited about this event.

Please don't get me wrong, I don't mean to rag on Dekalb, Edgewood, Poca, Winfield, or Southwestern's competition.  I'm raggging on my home state, Indiana.

aww, no way man. i know completely what u mean. and i certaintly take no offense. Indiana and Ohio competitions are different, and that will probably mess with the scores a little. Will that move us up? down? who knows..we'll see when we get there.

but i am looking forward to this competition, and it's sure to be fun.

good luck to all!!

Yeah, it's certainly gonna be close, that's for sure. I honestly wish all of show choir was more like Ohio. We only made finals at Ohio comps this year, due to the fact that we don't buy into flash and trash. Granted, we still lost to some groups I thought we should have beat, but by now I don't really care, after three years of general dissapointments, i just don't care anymore. Best of Luck!

Gee, could that be cause they were Ohio competitions?  And just so you know, good vocals don't mean a whole lot at most Indiana competitions, choreography and flash do!  Wake up and smell the coffee, things are different in Ohio.

My Predictions Stand:

GC:  Dekalb
1st RU:  Edgewood (though i wouldn't be surprised by an edgewood victory)
2nd:  Poca
3rd:  Winfield
4th:  Colerain

Vocals:  Dekalb
Choreo:  Edgewood
I'm pretty sure about these two.

Don't get me wrong, I REALLY want Colerain to beat Poca and Winfield, i will be the first to celebrate if they do.  They are nicest, most respectful, classiest group out there.  However, it is Indiana, and flash bang! does count for more than vocals.  The scoresheets don't say so, but believe me, judges will find a way to dock you even if there is no category for what they want to dock you for.  I have no doubt Dekalb and Edgewood's flash bang will greatly assist in their vocal scores.  Please don't get me wrong, I don't mean to rag on Dekalb, Edgewood, Poca, Winfield, or Southwestern's competition.  I'm raggging on my home state, Indiana.

Not to "disagree" with you, but we have been to a few indiana comps this year and we have done fairly well i would say... I mean the only groups we lost to in Iniana were some of the best in the country. But I definatly agree with you about the differences in Ohio and Indiana competitions! Its definatly gonna be a close comp! Thanks alot for the nice comments about Colerain, it means alot coming from an awesome group like Bishop Luers!

I hope you are wrong about the flash and bang thing in indiana, and last year OVS was definately not your typical indiana competition, and I hope they keep it that way this year, I LOVE OVS!!!

thank you for saying all the nice things about colerain!

Colerain's on a roll man, they'll easy get 2nd runner up.
And, I think Colerain has an awesome band. Heck yeah.
Haven't seen any of the other choirs, actually, but I loved Colerain at Shelbyville, they'll be good, even though I'm pretty sure the judging is inconsistent, I'm sincerely hoping it's consistent this year, because this ia a fairly popular choir competition.

I think this is gonna be a pretty tough competition. I do think that dekalb will win and either colerain or edgewood will come in 2nd or 3rd. Then I would go with Poca. I also think the last spot will go to either Winfield or East pending on which group made finals.

Wow you truly ARE a moron...  yes winfield did "dominate" over colerain during FINALS at marysville. however they won best vocals so go figure. They have competed with them at piqua and fairfield and dominated them.... Like before stated, at piqua, winfield didnt make finals and Colerain won GC, at fairfeild nor poca or winfield made finals and colerain took 2nd runner up. Marysville was colerain's first comp from what i hear from a personal friend i have in the choir so its not really a big deal winfield over took them in the night performance. So ummmm yeah buddy, good luck with those predictions, hopefully you didint put any money on it cuz you'd be one poor SOB
