Congratulations to all the groups at the Petal competition. Homewood was by far my favorite but I know that the grand champion slot was well earned by South Jones.

South Jones, you guys have a very talented director; to be able to choreograph and direct the show. Keep working hard and congrats.

It was nice to meet you too Lauren!

Ok then.....Any other Opelika girls want to comment on the South Jones guys from last year? I'm telling you....you better watch out for them! LOL....JK!

Austin and Bilbo came to me saying they wanted to go to Opelika to HELP me with all the equiptment....now I know the REAL story! It was just an excuse to come and see y'all! Oh well....at least I can say one thing for sure...THEY HAVE GREAT TASTE!!!!

Keep smiling and keep up the hard work!

I'm a LONG time show choir fan. And though I'm not in Company, I love to watch them. I'm so excited for how well you guys are doing. Go Company! Now on to the point of my post...

I just want to say...that I am appalled that NO ONE has gotten on here to thank Petal or the Soundsations for hosting such a wonderful competition. And to top it off...performing a flawless show after a long day's work! I wasn't competing...I just came to watch finals. I was so proud to see all the groups in finals...to see how Southern groups are finally doing so well. And you know why? It's because of groups like Petal. If you look around at the groups that made finals...ALL are ones who've been heavily influenced by Petal. (I know you think Clinton too...but really...Petal was has been the only choir for years that many of the "old timers" saw. Clinton didn't share as much with groups. It's only been in the past two or three years that they've begun to compete again in the South actually.) Petal has influenced the way show choirs dress (oh yes, It was Petal who busted out the suits for guys back in about 97 or 98...up until then it was sequence vests for everyone...even Clinton that year.). As I was watching the competition Saturday night, I was reminded of so many things. One thing in particular is that the current director of South Jones was able to receive training from Gail McInnis at Petal as he student taught. NO DOUBT, South Jones has been influenced by Petal...and for the better! I'm so proud of where Company is now.

Tupelo's past success can also be attributed to Petal. Tammy Carney, Tupelo's former director who created show choir for Tupelo is a Petal graduate who was also taught by Gail McInnis.

There are so many other examples.

Another thing I noticed...and I'm sorry for rambling...but competitions in the south used to be real crummy. THEN Petal started a competition. They showed EVERYONE down here how to put on a PROFESSIONAL competition that was fun and entertaining. Another flawless performance. Now...look at the other competitions in the south...Opelika...Homewood...they're doing competitions like Petal showed them how.

Anyway...I think Petal has been SO generous with all of the choirs down here...with their style and hospitatility. They're so good...they don't have to share it, but they do...willingly. This never really occurred to me until Saturday night as I was watching Petal perform. (And I must say, though I love Company in my heart...as well as all the other choirs...Petal was SO much different.) They've got a professional look to them that's different...and they're so clean.

So...if you've made it this far...CONGRATS!!! The South is representing on the show choir scene...and most of the choirs have Petal to thank for this (and of course a little hard work along the way ;)

South Jones, Albertville, Long Beach, Opelika, Tupelo, Homewood...and Petal....I can't wait to see what you'll do next year!

Oh wow, I think this is the first time I've ventured out of the General Discussion forums...

A huge congratulations to all the winners and placers at the Petal Invitational. I really wish I had gotten to come and see you all; I was rather looking forward to meeting some of you face to face after talking with you for over a year online, but alas, school got in my way.

A special congratulations to South Jones....my baby host group for the previous three years. ::sniff:: I remember the first year you guys didn't even make finals and now look at you! Winning the whole she-bang! Awesome. Absolutely awesome.

On a side note, I really missed the hosting experience this year. I remember how fun it was to decorate the rooms and meet new people and watch fantastic material each year. But, from the looks of things, Petal got the job done and everyone else did their part to make the competition a positively memorable one this year. Snaps for all.

God bless, you guys. One day... ::sigh::

LOL this is so funny that i am talking about my hair....

YES it actually is straight as a board lol and alot blonder without all of that hairspray on it! LOL..this is cracking me up.

but anyway, to get the "show choir-do" i first dry my hair with a diffuser to make it wavy, and then i curl it with a curling iron. a small curling iron of course. and then i poof it and put a million bobby pins in it and finish it off with my AquaNet hairspray....and believe me, that crap works like cement. lol.

but, TA DAH that is how my hair looks like that.

i was so excited when i first logged on to our website (www.opelikashowchoir.com) because i clicked to the Ovations pictures and there is one of me on there during practice one night when my hair is NORMAL...i was like OMG i gotta show my show choir friends this picture...they will DIE!!! lol

but anyway, congrats on yalls placement this weekend! great job! and congrats the south jones for taking FIRST!!! it was WELL deserved! i LOVED the show!

So Lauren, since you were talkin about your hair...wow! It's like the definition of show choir hair! Didn't you say it was straight? What do you do to get it that curly??

Sheesh... Long Beach- move up to AA? Personally, I don't want to move up. There's nothing like the feeling you get when you are resigned to the fact that you haven't made finals and then they call out your group's name, when you get Best Vocals over other groups have 10 or 15 more people than you do, or when people automatically rule you out because you're a "small group" and are COMPLETELY surprised when you succeed. I dunno... I sort of like to represent for the small groups. It's amazing what 30 people can do!

Let me just say congratulations to everybody involved in the Petal show choir competition....it was awesome!!!!

To all my kids at South Jones.....congrats...you have worked hard for this win. I know the senoirs were very excited!

Albertville...All I can say is that after prelims and we were tied....It was up to whoever wanted it the most...I saw yours and our show in finals and I honestly did not know who had won....y'all were amazing! Great show and a wonderful job performing it! You people from Albertville are some of the nicest I have ever met!

Long Beach...I did not get to see you in prelims, but you must have beenb awesome becuase Pell City blew the doors out Friday night, so you must have been great to beat them. Congrats onyour 3rd place finish...it is well deserved.

Opelika....I did not get to see either show, but all of our people said it was really good. Hope things keep going good for y'all! I love your direcot...very nice person! I even understand some of you might know some of our guys from last year personally! Y'all had better watch our for them...especially Chase!

Tupelo...did not get to see your show, but congrats on making finals...it was a tough competition!

Homewood....I though y'all should have been a little higher in the rankings, but keep your spirits up! Y'all did a great job and I really like your director, Mr. Thorne. I got to talk to him a little backstage.

Pell City....What an amazing job Friday night! I thought you were at a disadvantage having to go Fri night, but you blew me away! Great job and I look forward to seeing you again real soon!

It was a tough competition....very tough....and nerve racking! When they were annoncing finals and they announced 5 and still not us...omg...I almost passed out when they announced us! Then in finals when they got down to us and Albertville, I knew it could go either way. I am glad we won, but I cannot think of any other groups that I would like to be up against than Albertville, Long Beach, Opelika, Tupelo and Homewood! Great people and great groups! Nobody should come away unhappy!

Hope to see everybody soon!

DARN ALL YOU SENIORS FOR MAKING ME SAD!!!

Why can't their be like, one more high school level above 12th?!

You're starting to make me feel sad about all my seniors that are leaving me this year..I learned "show choir" from them..and now they're not gonna be around anymore!

hey guess what! we MAY be going to new york next year too!!! i wonder if we are going to a competition there?? that would be cool if both of our choirs went to new york at the same time! i also meant to say earlier that your director has some freakin awesome choreography. that amazes me. he is extremely talented! i do wish that i got hang out with you and your fellow members of south jones this year. i met some really nice ppl from your group this year and yall seem really cool! i know alot of the ones that graduated last year, but i didn't really meet many of yall this year. i met some really sweet girls at show choir camp from your group and i think i was talking to them while albertville was on in finals! but anyway, yall should really go to camp this summer cuz alot of folks from alabama are going and we had a BLAST last year! i can't believe comp season is over! this is sad! i cannot WAIT till next year!!!! comp season is the best!
