WOW! What a great day! Thanks to everyone who helped out in some way! He He that rhymed!

The results were as follows

GC: La Crosse (also some of the nicest parents and students, I might add)
La Crosse also took best band, Vocals and choreography.

1st RU Johnston (what an incredible improvement since Urbandale!)

2nd RU Waconia (another group of great kids!)

3rd RU Lincoln East (oh my goodness! I cannot believe the show you all put on at 8:25 AM!! It was great to see your high quality show make finals. You definitely deserved it!)

4th RU Bloomington Jefferson (great to have you all down in SIoux City again!)

5th RU Sioux Falls Washington (what a clean show, great singing, just wish you were louder!)

6th RU North St. Paul Great to have you all down from the cities as well! We enjoyed meeting you)

About class competition...

As directors, we have a choice to plan for class competition or open competition. Since we ran two centers, it was my choice to run open. It saves time in our office where they tabulate judges scores and offers us the opportunity to use money we would spend on trophies for class awards in other areas. It is entirely a decision for the director to make. In almost every competition The Headliners go to, we only have an open class caption. It works well and then you don't have an ugly situation when the top choir from the 3A class or the 2A class do not make finals or something like that. It can get really uncomfortable when you have that situation.

To Des Moines, Omaha, Heelan, Seward. What great performances. I wish we could take the top 12 scores, or better yet, let everyone do their show twice. You all had great shows and you should be very proud! To Kate Washington and Brian Bell our outstanding soloists for the solo competition. You have great careers ahead of you. Please, please keep singing! You were inspiring, moving and so very talented!

I hope you all enjoyed the day, we are VERY proud of all of you and of all of the East High choirs, parents and volunteers. Please be sure to put us on your schedule for next year! Sing All About It! February 26th, 2005

Roosevelt did get best male soloist, and its just "Varsity". Our JV group is Rider Rhythm and our prep group is Rider Rebellion. No "rider" in the varsity group.

gc: lacrosse
1st ru: johnston
2nd ru: waconia
3rd ru: lincoln east
4th ru: bloomington jefferson
5th ru: washington high
6th ru: North St. Paul

I believe thats how all the placings went. GCS got best vocals, best band, and best choro. Aberdeen got best tech crew. and I think that Seward (sp) got best femal solo. and the best male solo (I think..) went to Des Moines Rider Varsity.

Being it was our first competition of the year, and also we just learned our first 2 songs a week ago saturday, we did awesome at sioux city yesterday. It was really an honor for us to make finals, because we worked so hard this week learning half of our show. It was also cool, cause we beat people who we've never beaten before (Heelan)!! The major problem that we had was our vocals. We're so quiet because we only have 30 people in our group so we need to work harder because everyone else has like 50! Congrats to everyone yesterday! All the groups were SOOO GOOD!!!

Weeellll...............now that I'm back......

Haha, I slept in so late! Long day, my feet hurt, but no complaints. Congrats to all the groups who performed...I wish I could have saw johnston and waconia, but they were during when we were getting ready, warmup, critique, etc.... sadness. at least I ordered a finals tape...
Wow, that was an exciting day! Everyone was so nice, I wish we would have had more time to talk to the other reps that were accepting awards for their choirs too, but no worries.

I thought that the competition went pretty well. It was kind of weird that we didn't compete in classes though. But everyone in my group had a lot of fun. If anyone knows who our hosts were... tell them thanks for everything from washington.

Was Lincoln the one that danced on no risers and only have 14 ppl in the group??

Yup, that was lincoln east. I thought they had an incredible sound for just 14 voices. They were probably my favorite group of the day. I loved their a cappella rendition of "time after time."

6RU went to "Northern Lights" from St. Paul North High School, Minnesota.

I think that completes the finals list.

Well, I got back earlier from the competition than planned because of a little incident with a flying metal garbage can and my head. I got staples and a minor concussion but I'm okay. But I can only remember three of the groups that made it, so I dunno if this will help a whole lot, but Johnston Innovation, Grand Central Station, and Waconia Power Company made it into finals. I wish I could remember the rest, but I really can't ( shoulda grabbed piece of paper.) Someone else can post the results in a little more complete version, sorry bout that.

On a side note, I'd like to ask all of you how you thought the competition went. It's been like our first real one in a few years, and our biggest one ever by far!

Ryan

I thought the competition was pretty well run. The cafeteria seemed a little tight, but I suppose there's not too much you can do about that eh? The only thing I found weird.. was the fact that the solo competition was held in the art room ;) But I had alot of fun. Yay for 3rd place! " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I really enjoyed this competition, it was a lot of fun; and coming up 2nd to lacrosse wasn't anything that brought our choir down. plus we're competing against them in 2 weeks again, and if we can improve as much as we have over the last 2 weeks, i think we'll do very well.
btw, i was wrong, lincoln east made finals instead of seward. and its kind of coming back to me so i'll say this:

gc: lacrosse
1st ru: johnston
2nd ru: waconia
3rd ru: lincoln east
4th ru: bloomington jefferson
5th ru: washington high

i really hope and think that is right.

as far as the competition, i think everybody did great, i loved watching all the shows, and meeting new people. hope to see some of the same groups at cedar rapids jefferson, and branson.

Yeah, this is so irritating - people that were even THERE don't seem to remember. Is there some weird black hole in NW Iowa?

What did everyone think of the finalists?? how did they do? anything suprising?
