Hey guys!
I wanna thank everyone for their congrats. Just to comment on the things that were said about Jensen judging, I honestly knew that this would come up. Considering that there were 8 judges, I really don't think that Mrs. Jensen could've had that much of an influence, plus she is not that kind of person. Mrs. Jensen takes her job very seriously, she would never pick favorites.
I just have to say that Mr. Carroll is sooo awesome! I've had so much fun this year, and whether we place or not, Mr. Carroll makes it all worth while. It's a big improvement from last year, not only with the shows, but with our attitudes. I want to give all my gratitude to him!!!
Hart- you guys are awesome!! Even though you guys didn't place (which really surprised me!!!), you guys are still amazing! Just remember that you've got Burbank behind you all the way!! Thanks for the support at Showstoppers! I met a bunch of you and you were all really cool! Keep up the great work!

the judges at showstoppers are very picky and look fro a lot of things out of all the judges the highest scores i think that we got come from jenson. At show stopperstoppers all the of the groups are sooooo good that the judges look for so anything to mark you down because the competition is soo stiff. like for us in jail house rock if our you can't stop the beat costumes were hanging out of our jail house stuff then you get points off. If they see someone drop there showmanship you get points off showstopres is a very good learning expeirience the judges comments are great. congrats to burbank

I knew this would eventually come up (sooner rather than later).

I agree with the majority of your post LetsgoSKAnkin. Unfortunately, just the fact that Ms. Jensen judged a group that she directed just a few years ago doesn't seem right. It's too bad that the whole situation couldn't have been avoided.

This isn't a slam against Burbank or Ms. Jensen. If there had been a judge who previously directed any other group there, there would still be contention.

I watched InSync and thought you all were great. I can't compare you to the other groups because I only saw a few. I know that choirs don't make finals without a great performance. So congratulations.

I originally had similar reservations about Ron Bolles adjudicating the SoCal festival last year with Music Machine performing, but you have to realize that these people are extremely regarded individuals who have been doing what they are doing for a very long time. If nothing else, at least it's adding a breath of fresh air (and some new faces) to the judging table. I had several discussions with Michelle Jensen while she was directing at Burbank, and I can't think of a kinder, more respectful person. If you really want to argue it, Burbank placed last in the finalists division... and if she was being "unfair," I don't think that would have occured. A lot of posts have been made lately about unfair or "biased" judging, but when it comes down to it, no one is completely objective. It's more important to revel in each others' amazing work and not focus so much on the placements or points. In the end, the music and the people are what matter the most.

It really troubles me to think that people from choirs so close to where i am and where some people are really good friends with me would say things so hurtful. When overlooking what happened this past week/end in orlando florida, and the comments made, it really makes me wonder what kind of person would ignorantly accuse michelle jensen of being that unprofessional about her job. i understand that there is definitely bitterness lingering about, but there is no need to bring up those negative, uneducated acusations. Yes, Michelle Jensen is a former director of the Burbank High Vocal program, but that doesn't change the fact that she has been around choir, show choir and non, for many years... and has quite a reputation nationally, and most likely internationally. We at burbank have worked just as hard as any other choir out there, and to think that we only made finals because of an "insider" is ridiculously absurd. I'm not out to attack anyone, i'm here to stop unnecessary and false accusations from being made. So if these comments were to cease, i'm sure many people, not just from burbank but all over the country, would be very pleased. thank you

And also, thank you to the people who are congratulating us on our accomplishments, it means a lot.

(please note, these are not the opinions of BHS VMA as a whole, but simply my own... so please do not think that... thank you)

I really dont think that Burbank made finals because Michelle Jensen, the former director, was on the judges panel. Florida Showstoppers is a VERY tough competition. I went in 1999 with Glendora and Burbank i believe got 3rd and Glendora got 6th and Burroughs didnt even make finals. So do know its a tough competition out there, and just my opinion, Burbank did not receive any special scoring from the judges. Thats all.

hey i was there too! ;) glendora girls got 3rd, and burbank girls got 2nd (or was it 1st? oh i don't remember all i know is they beat us). yes it is a really tough comp and you really need to know what you're doing to do well... it's not even as much that you have really tough competition, but the way it's set up is just so much different with it being 3/4 days and being all outside...not to mention they have a limit on how many people can be on stage at once- did they still have it this year? if so, neither group had to cut anyone for different numbers did they?

hart DIDN'T make the finals??? They're amazing this year! I wonder what kind of choirs they were competing against that shoved them out of the finals...??

well, for starters, one of the choirs had their former director as one of the judges.

I was really bummed to find out that we didn't make finals. I personally felt that it was the best performance of my life.  I saw some good stuff in Orlando (as well as some really bad stuff).  I don't know what else to say.

WELCOME BACK!!! We're still proud of you!

I'm not suprised Burbank made it. Carroll gives them such a midwestern touch, and seeing how every judge at showstoppers is midwestern.....Burbank is in.

I was actually surprised myself, because I think Hart has quite a midwestern feel this year as well. They are the only group to outscore Powerhouse this year, and they were incredible the last time I saw them (at their own festival last weekend). I will say that I think Burbank also has a fantastic show this year (I would place them in the top three choirs of SoCal show choir for the 2003 season), and I'm very pleased to hear that they have advanced to the finals. I am sad to hear that Hart did not make it, but without seeing the other groups it's really hard to say who deserved what. When you've got an A-list of top choirs from throughout the country performing, the competition is going to be fierce. And even if everyone is phenomenal, SOMEone's got to be cut from the list. That being said, we should all give both of our SoCal schools a warm reception when they get back - they've worked very hard this year and deserve to feel like winners, regardless of their placements.

There are reasons, but until they return home we won't know all of them. However, I do know they scored very low on their a cappella Steal Away, even though the audience and people passing by could not believe how great they sounded.
