I've got two questions:
  • Do many of the competitions in the Midwest have "finalists," or only a few of the larger competitions? On the West Coast, the only competition that divided into preliminaries and finals was Showstoppers, LA.

  • I noticed that La Crosse Central won the "Director Award." If it's not for vocals, and it's not for choreography, then what does it honor? And how is the honoree selected?

Along the same line of thinking... from the few experiences I've had in the Midwest and East Coast, I noticed that the West Coast competitions give far fewer caption awards; rarely anything except Musicianship and Showmanship (vocals and choreography). The judges' score sheets generally divide into those two separate categories, and the choirs with the best points in each category get the respective caption awards. (Thus, if an emcee announces that one group won both music and show, we all know that 1st place isn't far away). I'd love to hear all the different types of caption awards that get handed out in the midwest.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson was 10th and Fort was 8th , i believe. The placings were about right from what I saw this weekend. did anyone else see this competition and have any thoughts?

Grand Champs: La Crosse Central (Director award)
1st Runner up: Mt. Zion (Choreo)
2nd Runner up: Urbandale (Vocals)
3rd Runner up: Buffalo Grove (Band)
4th Runner up: Totino Grace
5th Runner up: Bemidji

La Crosse Central received 3 first's and 2 seconds... while Mt. Zion received... a first, second, third, and 2 fourths... that is how wide the margin was.

101...84...82.... were the points for the top 3 groups
