Wow, congrats to Millard West! That's a surprise not many saw coming, I'm sure.

Looks like Millard West, Johnston, and Lincoln Southwest will get another chance to duke it out with one another at Urbandale.

Yeah, Cohagen, your sister is really amazing. She was super good at their first concert as well. Tiffany likes her a lot from having her a short time in a class and we both watch her a lot in all choir/musical/theater performances.

*sniff* I'm not crying I'm chopping onions...

also she's in Tiffany's class? Well that makes me feel old...

How was Lincoln East? I know they have a new director... anybody have any notes on their show?

They landed in 7th missing finals by only 3 points, from what I hear.

YOUR BALLAD GOT ME INTO TEARS. Your soloist was breathtaking. I could help but keep saying Oh My God during the ballad.

Personally I had everyone ranked:

GC: Johnston (BV, BC)
1RU: Millard West (BB)
2RU: Lincoln Southwest
3RU: Elkhorn South
4RU: Grand Island NW
5RU: Norris

As said by one of my friends, "There isn't a group that came out and stood out to me. Each group presented something unique, but there wasn't a group that came out and clearly was better than the rest." I thought that Millard West, Lincoln Southwest, and Norris all had great ballads that were so different in their own way. My friends and I were very surprised by the ending results and we couldn't come up with a reason as to why the judges place Lincoln Southwest so low, but we are not professionals and we are just high school kids. Maybe we were missing things that educated professionals clearly saw. Either way, it was such a pleasure to watch such a diverse and well-rounded group of choirs for the evening and I'd like to thank UNL for hosting such a fantastic event in a lovely auditorium!

P.S. My friends and I only had one negative comment about the entire event: there was one hanging speaker on stage right that had some sort of problems during Johnston's performance. That was really distracting, but what can you do?

After hearing some big surprises last night, like Wheaton getting upsetted, this one was by far, by far, by far, by far, by far, like by far the craziest one. I was extremely excited to watch all of these groups and to see how some would progress from last week. It was my first time watching Johnston, Millard West, and Lincoln Southwest this year and I have to say amazing job. Going into finals I wasn't even sure on who would make it in. One thing I saw lack a bunch last night was the performance aspect of the shows. This was a really close one and I don't think anyone could of guessed how this would of turned out! My final prediction was...

GC: Johnston (BC)
1RU: Millard West (BV,BB)
2RU: Lincoln Southwest
3RU: Grand Island
4RU: Elkhorn South
5RU: Norris

And here's why. I believed Johnston had an amazing show. It was entertaining to watch and the show just constantly built to the end of the show. (Btw, whoever is the front center guy with the intense facials, kudos to you. I'm totally stealing some of your tricks to add to my performance). Vocally, I felt like some parts of the show dynamically didn't stick out. I felt like the contrast between piano to your fortes could of been better, other than that I really enjoyed the show. Your girls are FIERCE.

Millard West did an outstanding job. Vocals were on point and the overall vibe of the show caught my attention. One reason why I had you sitting in second was because some people in the group did some sketchy things during the show that I thought for sure would dock points. Like touching of the face during the balled, running on not during a transition, just simple show choir 101 things. But you guys worked hard and showed why you guys deserved to win last night. I applaud you and hopefully I can maybe be your host when you come to GI's invite in March!

This is where it gets cray cray. Lincoln Southwest. I believe you guys had a solid show. I was waiting and waiting for the tap number to come and it did, and as usual you guys pulled it off and nailed it. YOUR BALLAD GOT ME INTO TEARS. Your soloist was breathtaking. I could help but keep saying Oh My God during the ballad. I feel like your show has a lot of sections that could really wow people and they just didn't last night. I had you up in the mix of 2RU, 1RU so I was extremely surprised about what happened. You have a great show and you guys will do amazing this year, I know it.

Elkhorn South- One thing I really enjoyed about your show is how everyone went after it and committed the whole show. Being choreographed by the same choreographer I saw similar moves we do in UI and in past years, which was entertaining to watch. I think the only thing to work on is what emotions you are trying to portray in the numbers. A prime example is "Roar". Half of the group seemed happy during it. Which was really confusing on what the whole meaning of the song was. Kudos to dance captains for hella clean choreo. You guys are doing extremely well and I'm excited what you guys have to bring to the table at later competitions!

Norris- I know how it feels like to be the underdog and seeing that you guys are from Fifth and are able to roll with the "big dogs" really flabbergasts me. Just like I said for Elkhorn South I was kinda confused on what message you were trying to tell people throughout the show. I'm excited to see how you guys do in the future!

and last but not least Grand Island-
Wow!! I think we can all say we didn't see this one coming. This is the second week in a row I came to watch and cheer on my hometown rival show choir, I know sounds funny. I'm extremely proud of how you guys have worked and went after it. Last week I wasn't so sure on how you guys placed but I'm sure you guys deserved this one. You guys drifted away from props from past years and showed what you guys are made of. You had an amazing finals performance and I believe is what locked in that 2RU position. Katie Aguilar, I think that's how you spell it, you kicked some A, and you're extremely fierce, I couldn't keep my eyes off you. I really enjoyed Stuck Like Glue. Hilarious! We can all say GI can perform. Your band is amazing as usual. I can't wait to see how you guys stack up later this season. I wish we could of competed this year though. Everyone likes a city showdown ;). Best of luck to you 14 Karet, you'll always have me as a fan.

What is the story on SW? Was this competition unbelievably hard, or did something go wrong. ..?

I was at Midwest Cup yesterday, and I can honestly tell you that this was NUTS. I was with Reang (so S/O to the guy who posted above this who wants Reang's opinion!) and we were screaming. After prelims, I had it pegged:

GC: LSW
1RU: Johnston
2RU: Millard West
3RU: Elkhorn South
4RU: Northwest
5RU: Norris

Honestly, we all thought the top 3 or 4 could really be a toss up. Hahahah obviously I was wrong. Northwest really really stepped up their game from prelims to finals (so happy for them!), but I'm still confused on how things turned out...no one in my group was sure how LSW got knocked all the way to 5RU.

The groups were all pretty much on an even playing field. Not a single group had a total advantage over the other based on what I saw, and there was no clear winner. So, I wouldn't say it was a tough competition in the sense that there was one dominating team, or in the sense that there was a HUGE battle for finals spots. The only other group I could've seen in finals would have been Papio. So...we aren't sure what happened.

Best Band was awarded after prelims and that also went to Millard West. I know I'll try to post thoughts on choirs sometime tomorrow. I'm hoping to see other peoples thoughts, like Reang, or someone else who was there.

Poor SW, after seeing their first concert I thought this year might be a little rough compared to previous years. Congrats to all though and I hope everyone can keep improving and kick butt at their future competitions.
