We are not saying you are wrong... it's just an odd way to do it. We are honored to have been named GC's six times at your competition. But I'm sure you can see how it's hard to fully understand your system as a spectator.

That is a fair statement and I yelled at our EMCEE for not reading what was on the announcement paper which explained this. Of course, since he is my Husband, I can yell at him all I want. He has a lot of fun doing it, so I didn't yell much!

I can't name a single competition that bases it off of the daytime scores. I know all ISSMA's do it for the evening Dekalb, and every major competition in Ohio, WV, and IN

I'm not sure if they still do it, but I know when I was first in show choir (circa 2000-2003), Cuyahoga Falls' competition awarded vocals/choreo solely on daytime scores. Which, back in the day, was a MAJOR competition in Ohio.

All I'm trying to say is- different places do things differently. It's not wrong- it's how they do it.
I personally checked with directors and competition chairpeople. I did not ask Marysville or Teays Valley but checked with others around the state and out of state. Ohio does not have the standard score sheet used for ISSMA. So it is up to the competition how they ascertain who wins what awards. It's personal choice of the director/competition committee. Fame- New York had a Grand Champion this year that did not win any of the caption awards. It IS odd, but it happens.

I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm just saying that different places do it differently. Our scoring is not whacked. Teays Valley has been the proud Grand Champion of Music and More for most of the years we have done this. We were proud to call them champions this year. And hope they come back to defend next year.

I don't know what competitions you'd be referring to, FAME excepted. Large Ohio competitions like Fairfield, Twinsburg, Marysville, Teays Valley, etc. all award vocal and choreography captions during finals based upon finals scores, or at least that was the case the last time I checked.

very few do it that way. most do it at night.

Most of the competition directors that I checked with indicated that they award the best choreo and vocal trophies based on the daytime scores. They give the awards out at night. FAME also does it the above way.
I have found only 1 competition that awards the trophies based on the night time scores only.

Our night time awards- Vocals and Each of the other years, we have based the awards on daytime only as everyone else seems to do.

Our night time awards- Vocals and Choreography are awarded to the MOST CONSISTENT group over the entire competition period. And for those who think our scoring is odd, we have only presented these awards in this manner for 2 years. Each of the other years, we have based the awards on daytime only as everyone else seems to do.

Olivia H from Colerain, you are most welcome. Thank you for all of your efforts in entertaining our audience. Best of luck to you and all of the other show choir seniors who have finished up.

Daytime Results:
Class B:
Best Female Soloist: Teays Valley
Best Male Soloist: Edgewood
2RU: ARTS
1RU: Teays Valley
GC: Edgewood

I would like to point out that Edgewood's Prep group took third runner up. This was very exciting for us because it was by far our best performance and we did end up placing in front of another group. Something we had been working all year to acheive and we finally did!

I would just like to congratulate every group that made finals at Wapak. Each group was outstanding and really left it all on the stage. I'm a senior and this was my last competition as a Show Card. Teays, you guys put on an awesome show and I was so entertained. Congrats on your win. Also a special thank you to every student and parent who helped put this competition together and for making it an amazing experience. And i would just like to say thank you to all of my Show Card family for making my final year so memorable. <3

Ah, huh? Not ripping on you, but tell me how that makes sense...

It doesn't. This competition's results are usually pretty strange for that very reason.

Combined scoring was only for the caption awards. Vocals and Chroeo. were combined totals of the day and night. The actual point totals that determined the finals placements were only point totals that were given during the finals performance. The slate was wiped clean at night.

Got it. Thanks.

Teays had a bad prelims performance and an amazing finals performance. Teays also won vocals in the evening I believe.

I didn't get to see their prelims performance so I only saw their finals performance which was amazing. I just don't get the combined scoring but I can see why they won. The finals had a lot of solid performances and congrats to everyone who competed.

I don't really understand either. I honestly though Beavercreek was going to win and I am happy for Teays, but I just don't understand how Beavercreek could have best vocals, Teays didnt have best choreo, and then Teays ends up winning. I don't get how the scores are combined for pre lims and night scores. If Teays was 4th going into finals with no caption award and Beavercreek had best vocals and a solid final performance(which was great for having people missing), how did Teays come out as GC?

Vocals and Choero scores were a combination of the day time and night time scores. Teays was in 4th going into finals and 12 points separated 1st to 5th.
