Hastings has a more diverse array of sound than you hear from lots of other groups, Wheaton always has phenomenal sound but it's mostly the same warm, dissonance heavy arrangements (which has played to their favor a lot!) mr. Burlace certainly knows what he's doing and The Classics have some of the best vocals in the country, but I would definitely say that Hastings deserves what they get in terms of their multiple best vocals caption awards.

I saw Hasting at Onalaska this year. I will tell you the vocals are amazing!! I have not been able to see WWS so I can not speak to thier vocals. Watching the best video on youtube can not even come close to wathing live. I am also biased as I have been able to see Hastings live no less than 3 time a year for the last 4 years.

After watching WWS on youtube, its hard to believe that they didn't win best vocals. Congrats to Hastings on what must have been a stellar vocal outing.

Hastings has a very beautiful and classical sound that is just breath-taking if you have seen them live... Considering the only youtube footage of Hastings so far is their preview show and WWS is lucky enough to have their most recent performance posted, it is exactly like "Stolba" said. It's youtube. And I may be biased, but Hastings has had some stellar vocals for a really long while. If I'm not mistaken, they grabbed the vocals award from Clinton in 2011 at Totino and have since won it over countless astounding groups. I don't want to take anything away from WWS at all! I watched their show and their vocals are consistent the entire time. Just on throughout the show. But there is something about Riverside's vocals that just stops me in my tracks.

1) it is YouTube

2) Hastings has a really good sound. I know you did not say this, but a lot of people think louder=better. Hastings had a quieter sound compared to the groups I saw live at Linn Mar's competition but they had an overall better sound.

Finals is ranked so the points are somewhat meaningless. WWS at Mtz had the most overall points but one judge had Chatham ahead and that elevated Chatham to the win. With ranks, anything can happen.

Just for clarification's sake, Finals at Winterfest is judged and points are awarded -- it is not ranked.

From what I understand, the finals show flows better and has the extra tidbits that make it better than prelims.

That's what I was trying to say, but I think I just sounded confusing.

I think if anyone else attempted this sort of thing, they'd likely create a show and then just reverse it for finals, but I'm guessing the real show is the finals show and they actually created the "reverse" version for the daytime round. The audience wouldn't see it that way (which is what makes it brilliant), but it would be a pretty sharp way to approach it.

I'm just speculating, of course, but I'm willing to give Burlace and Dwight the benefit of the doubt.

Haha, that's funny. I wonder if the reversed show is actually stronger (ie, the closer in Finals is better as a closer or something) and that gives them an extra little boost for finals that wasn't there in prelims.

Would be pretty smart, actually.

Lets see the reversed show vs Hastings for the GC!!
