well I don't think i'm a resident expert lol, but yea I would agree that most of the AA groups have stepped it up. I would like to think it's partially because they're competing more in other parts of the country. I think the South's main downfall is vocals. It seems like many of them are trying so hard to be like Clinton and Petal that they're trying to take some shortcuts (though this is a trend in many other parts of the country as well). Also, if there's one thing I'm getting kinda of tired of in the South, it's "butt-shaking" in the guys numbers. I know you get a rise out of the crowd, but I think you also lose a little class in the process.

This all reminds me of a topic I was talking to some friends about this weekend. It seems to be a trend catching on for directors to use more than 1 choreographer. It would be a real plus to see this happen in the South. For example, I'd love to see South Jones have someone like Randy Sage choreo a couple numbers for them. Or Homewood have someone like Scott Hines come in and do the same. Both SJ and Homewood's choreographers are great, but I think having multiple choreographers is a definite PLUS because every choreographer has their strengths and weaknesses.

EDIT: By the way, when I say "South", I mean the Southern region, not South Jones.

But it is by far the toughest year ever in A as well, so I would agree that this year is the strongest ever for Southern Choirs. Sure it's just an opinion, but I think many of us would agree, and yeah I wanna hear what our resident expert Matt thinks...someone who knows more than me about show choir, but then again that isn't very hard.

Cool... Well, I know this is little off topic ( " border="0" alt="offtopic.gif" /> ), but I'm just curious on your opinion on something... since you are one of the resident experts on the ghosts of show choirs past.

Personally, I think that this is the strongest that the Southern show choirs in AA particularly have been from top to bottom in a while (well, as long as I can remember). From Clinton, Petal, South Jones, Albertville, Enterprise, Opelika, Homewood, Long Beach, Tupelo, Auburn, etc. What with 4 Southern show choirs placing at Belmont (granted that the Big names from the MidWest weren't there). What's your opinion on this, and do you think that this is the best group of show choirs that the South has produced to date?

I forgot to give props to Kayla Neeld for doing an excellent job "filling in" on Kelsey's solo. Another thing about Clinton is they have not only 1 or 2 front/center people who shine, but they have at least 10 kids who are stars. ::stops gushing about Clinton cuz i'm sure u getting sick of it::

I also enjoyed watching Tupelo this weekend...the first half of your show is so entertaining and you have some great performers.

First of all, I just wanna say that I had a blast this weekend. All of the Petal and Clinton alums I stayed with were incredibly nice. I never thought i'd say this, but i'm extremely glad my Branson trip got cancelled allowing me to fly down this past weekend.

I have no doubt that Petal is the most well-run competition here in the South. I thought the placings were 95% on the mark. Despite what's being said on here, I thought Clinton's show was really awesome. When I first saw the tape I was a lil disappointed with some parts, but after Saturday I think I like it better than last year. Sure the closer isn't the greatest ever, but like Chris said, it's hard to top "I Drove..". I know "Hollywood Bound" has grown on me a lot since I first saw it and I think it'll grow on everyone else too once you start watching the DVD. One of the things I loved about Clinton this year was that 90% of the show was made up of songs i'd never seen another group do. I mean, who's done "Into the Light" or "Hollywood Swingin"?? (Though i'm sure someplace, somewhere they've been done b4). Thanks to them I have some new favorite songs now.

I was really happy South Jones got 2nd. You all were not scared! (<-- huh oh, too much time around Phil lol) They just put everything they got into their performances (esp. Cody!). The 2nd half of their show blows me away just like it did at Homewood. I'd love to see you all throw us a curveball next year and take a risk with your show. Maybe the choreo should be toned down a notch cuz poor Cody and Ellyn seemed like they were gasping for air during their solos (tho I think some areas have been toned down a little since last year). The ballad was pretty, but it didn't have the "umph" that Clinton or Petal's had. I'd also like to hear a more "manly" sound out of the guys. Like many other people have said on here, you all are so close to being up to Petal and Clinton level. I just feel that some maturing still needs to occur in some of the sound and look areas before you're up to "Petalian" level. With that said, I was incredibly pleased you all got 2nd. Good luck in NYC!

It also brightened my weekend (even moreso) that a couple Clinton girls recognized me from the boards. Wish I could've actually gotten to talk to yall. Was also great meeting Kelsey Jones hug.gif

okay..here goes....

CLINTON- wow....whoever is saying all this "clinton is really off this year" stuff is definately on crack....i mean sure....the closer was no "I Drove All Night"....but what is? y'all are still SO INCREDIBLE...the choreography (especially the opener) was some of the best clinton stuff so far....and wild wild west really is my favorite guys' number ever....i'm already counting down until i see y'all again in nashville this weekend...(kellis...your hair ROCKS! lol)

south jones- i heard that y'all were really awesome even though i didn't get to see y'all....i'm really excited for fame new york!

long beach- your show was good this week.....good luck in FL

tupelo- still haven't seen y'all

pascagula- congratulations on making finals....i saw y'all's show at homewood this year and it had greatly improved from last year

petal- gah...i'm so mad we didn't get to see y'all this time....our hosts were really nice and kelsey i still love you!!

wow. crazy weekend.

south- i heard you kicked it up a notch. good for you! ya'll have had an awesome year and i know you've worked hard for it.

tupelo- i still didn't get to see you. o well.

pascagoula- i saw you from backstage at homewood's comp (i was your emcee!) and i was impressed because you didn't appear to be "newbies" to the world of show choir. and that may be because your director is a clinton alum, correct????

long beach- the sweetest kids ever. i'm so proud of you for taking risks and proving yourselves. i only got to see you from the "overflow room" but i think it was the best you've ever done. keep in touch. all of you.

clinton- gosh. respect is the only word i think is appropriate. i loved seeing some similar choreography at parts and i heard you liked our show. wow. what an honor.

homewood- im sorry guys. i thought it was our best performance of the year and it topped everything i've personally done this year, solo-wise and what-not. but the theme of this year has been (in addition to save the tiger) the one judge screwing us over and you know it and other people know it too. we just need to be proud of what we accomplished. there are TONS of people who saw us and they'll tell you that we deserve better. i mean- for crying out loud- clinton kids thought we should have been in finals- i think "Clinton's Pick" should count for at least 30% of our score!
i know you're upset. i am too. i bawled like a freaking baby(ask charles). but Mr. Thorne asked us if we were satisfied with that and i said yes and i meant it. i hope you did too.

in other news:
new york is not far away!!!!!! we only have 3 days in school after spring break before we're gone again!!!!!!!!!!! yay.

and i want a petal prelims dvd. let me know when anyone finds out anything.

AND...

i got a haircut today. hahahahaha.

How about Pascagula... where have they come from???  Could it be a new Mississippi show choir to be reckoned with?  Hmmmm...

Well you see...WHAT HA HAPPENED WWWASS...pascagoula is pretty good...there show isn't good..until the very last number, Bring Me To Life, where they do this really cool suprise thing where they all jump out from behind a white curtain thing dressed, SORT OF like opelikas Thriller thing a few years ago....and it just makes their whole show............i'm guessing the judges forgot about the rest of the show, which is pretty boring with vocals sounding very immature....

but what do i know

ha

oh yeah...and i wanted to tell Cody Mc...your's and ellyn's solo was so great...i've never heard it sound so awesome....whoa

Does anyone happen to have the information on who filmed this competition?

I would love to have a DVD of these groups, it's shame we don't get to see them in person!

I personally Enjoyed their show more than Clinton... i was impressed with Clinton but not Blown away asi usually am.. yea good vocals and good choreo but the entertainment factor and energy factor Def. goes to South Jones... with a close Runner up in Vocals and Choreo... but Entertainment factor i believe if they dint tell us who Clinton was alot of people might have guessed South Jones as the Best??!>!>!
