For more details on the armbands...

Attache is joining together with SCN to sell blue (one of Enterprise's school colors) armbands at this competition. However, they will NOT be sold at the performance sites, just at the hotel.

The cost is $5.00 per armband and SCN will be matching at least part of the donation (which is amazing, because this competition isn't just a fundraiser for them- ti's a business!). The goal is to get everyone at this competition wearing a band so that the folks from Enterprise can look around and see all of the support they have from our community. It's a great idea, and Mary and everyone at SCN are wonderful for giving us an opportunity to help Enterprise heal!

Hey betterthanyou, maybe I was a little harsh with my comments, but it really bothers me when people want to make posts under the cloak of anonymity that cast a negative light on an individual. It costs you nothing to make that post and what if a person read it and they are looking for a judge for a future comp and they decide well this judge has been involved in controversy and we don't need that. I know thats a far fetched example, but like I said it cost you nothing cause you don't have your name on your information. I understand that it's best if there are no ties to judges and at a national comp you would expect that, at local comps it's almost impossible that there are not some ties between judges and a local group, due to the need to save travel expenses and all the judges not coming in from a long distance off.

Thanks for the compliments on the sound! We work hard to make it the best possible. I have been around show choir for 8 years and I know what it is like when you cant hear your kids sing or you know they are off because they cant hear, so I just try to make it the best I can. StageTec would like to thank West Jones and South Jones for their hospitality this year and for letting us work sound and lights for their comps!! Anything we can do for anyone please let us know!!

Congrats to all the groups!!

Sorry, I didn't mean to start anything up. An opinion is only an opinion, and most of them (including mine most of time) are similar to the armpits of our costumes! Aauuughh! The judges are only a fraction of a percent of the audience, and whatever trophy received is merely a result of their collective opinions. When you get right down to it, all that matters is that each performer feels good about his or her performance. We all share the love of music and performing, so my hat is off to all of you!! Thanks again, West Jones, for doing the best you could without having your own facilities.

yay! i'm so glad ben made all state! ((ourhost))
and please..although i've commented on this subject lets please not start any more arguing! everyone is entitled to their opinion, i just think that we shouldn't say anything intentionally to be taken out of context or what not to save a little drama on the boards...

Before I start I just want to set the record straight this is not an attack on anybody this is just giving some information.

Ms. Saul retired from South Jones in the late 90's. I know because I was still in high school and my school and South Jones were huge competators at the time. The directors that have come between Ms. Saul and Mr. McKenzie did not have the charisma and the ability to build the choir to the standards that it was at with Ms. Saul and now with Mr. McKenzie. Wanda Saul judged them during this time frame and judged them fairly. As I recall, my junior year of high school South Jones and my high school made it to the finals of the South Central Classic, when they took 6 groups. South Jones beat us in the prelims, and Wanda Saul was judging. I felt the same as you do today at that time, but when we went to finals we beat South Jones and Ms. Saul gave us the higher score. Now remember this was only a year or so after she retired so if she wanted to be bias at the time she could have been. Ten or so more years later the chances of bias behavior coming into play is very limited. These judges have a reputation to uphold in the community of show choir and I believe that they are very careful to not come across as being bias. If anything they are most likely harder on those groups that they have an "attachment" to.

Just my thoughts, memories, and opinions! Also, I like to give people something to ponder. " border="0" alt="thumbsup.gif" />

Now let me give some information on the judge that has been questioned, she is Wanda Saul and taught at SJ for many years and also worked with Petal and with Mrs Mac on their Show Choirs. She has been a judge at many comps and I don't think she would risk getting a bad reputation by doing anything to help out South, for someone to even imply this unless they have some more info is pretty low.

Were her qualifications ever questioned? No. My opinion is my opinion. I didn't question whether SJ should have won. It would be like having the lady who started Attache being called in to judge them in a competition. Or having Mrs. McKinnis judge Petal. Both of them are equally qualified, but they also have invested their time, talents and heart into those particular groups. To say one can be completely unbiased in that situation is ridiculous. If it seems unfair to the other groups competing, then it shouldn't be done. As I said, it's only my opnion.

Let me start this off by saying thanks to Company Dad who was on the sound board all weekend, given the situation with having to bring in just about all the sound equipment and some of the lighting, I thougt the sound was very good. Not to mention somone who is not willing to even put their name on what they post. It should also be pointed out that two judges dropped out at a late date (one of them being Brad Baker due to the tradgey at Enterprise) and had to be replaced, so this comp was lucky to have the quality of judges that it did.
