That is true. Twinsburg is the one competition Marysville has won each year since the breakout season of 2006. Piqua has placed second three of those four times also, so last night's showdown was an interesting case of history repeating.

I hadn't planned on attending Twinsburg's competition, but my mother is a Piqua fan and wanted to see that group compete this season (and one must honor mother's wishes) so we packed into the car and made the trip up north. I was glad to go if only to sit in that very impressive auditorium. In terms of facilities, Twinsburg is the competition to beat in Ohio. Also, the competition is well run in general and has some of the best food that I recall eating during my performing days, so congrats to the parents and staff at Twinsburg for that.

With that said, I was disappointed with my experience at Twinsburg in that I felt none of the competing groups gave a transcendent performance. I feel the low attendance affected the level of competition, and it showed in the relatively low impact performances.

Marysville:
I'm glad to see the group garner another win, especially in preparation for their very difficult final competition in a couple weeks. I did feel the win was deserved, and I felt the group gave the most impressive performance in terms of technical ability and artistry. However, this was the least clean Marysville performance I have seen since Piqua, and considering that the judges had the group in second after daytime I felt they may have given the judges an excuse to keep them there.
I suspect many of the problems stemmed from a cramped stage, as it appeared from the audience that the singer/dancers on the floor were uncomfortably close to the mics throughout the show and I noticed hesitation in movement at several points. The closeness also allowed individual voices to stick out, especially in the closing half. The band also gave their least polished performance I can recall since the holiday concert, as there was noticeable rushing in the closer and the horn sound became more and more blatty.

Piqua:
There's an audacity to Piqua and their brand of showmanship that I find attractive year to year. This is no secret, and I was expecting to love what I saw from the group at Twinsburg, but I felt the performance was not entirely what I had hoped for. A bit of the token Piqua fire was missing, and though I was impressed with level of cleanliness (sometimes an issue for late season Piqua groups), I needed that extra pull from the singer/dancers to really sell me on the show and their ability to win the competition.
However it was a very fun showing, and I enjoyed the core sound throughout the set. I think the girls could sing with more style in "Damaged," but visually it is probably the most enjoyable Piqua girls' feature to date. I love the idea of proceeding straight to the bows without pause in the closer, but the lack of band sound caused that specific show element to lose some of its impact. Still, a good showing from the group and I look forward to seeing what comes next year.

We have, well our seniors have. We only won it by 1.5 points. It was very close!

Predictions

GC: Piqua
1RU: Marysville
2RU: Solon
3RU: Hurricane
4RU: Capital
5RU: Euclid

It's going to be close. It really matters what kind of performance Marysville gives. It could go either way but as of now I put my money on Piqua.

I am pretty pumped for Saturday. I can't wait to see every body! This is definitely my favorite competition of the season.
