All i can say is that I have been around show choir for a long time and I have been to alot of competitions, and i have to say, with all the adversity of the location, the theatre and all their rules, where to put dressing rooms, food, etc... I think this was a very good competition! I saw every single group on both days and even with all the differences, every group went on stage and performed like it was the greatest place ever. There were some great performances!
Ive said this several times this year.... PRACTICE IT.... POLISH IT... PERFORM IT... THEN LEAVE IT ON THE STAGE!!

Great Job West Jones!!

Oh yea.... Mrs. Scrimpshire.... Great talking to ya on the radio! But, next time, can ya say something more then... "More Monitor!" Lol!!! Just kidding, great working with all the West Jones people! Ive known some of them for a long time.

I look forward to seeing all of you next Tuesday night at the Farewell to the Seniors event at Jones.... Yall come by the sound booth and say hello!!

My name is Mrs. Scrimpshire and I am the director at West Jones Middle School and co-direct the West Jones Show Choir Invitational. (I am the lady that directed you on the stage.) The reason that Columbus was moved to the small division is indeed because they had 19 on stage. There was no way for me to know until they were on stage that they were only dancing 19. I can only assume that a group has the appropriate number on stage when the registration form is turned in placing them in a certain category. I chalked this incident up to their director being farily new and maybe she made a mistake. At any rate, our rules and regulations state that each group must compete in the appropriate category. This meant that they have to be moved. It should not have been an option for any group and won't be in years to come. That is my mistake. I am sorry for the confusion.

Congrats to everyone!

I'm proud of my group and that we've received 2nd runner up. We did not perform our best, so I'm not upset that we received that award.

But I do believe the Small Mixed awards were unfair to my choir and every other choir involved for this reason:
Columbus has been announced to participate with the Middle Division.
In the program, they were listed with the Middle Division.
They performed in order with the Middle Division.
However, when it came time to judge, they were judged with the Small Division.
To my group and every group in the Small Division, it was a complete slap in the face during awards when Columbus was announced in our division. It was extremely hard onstage to hide my surprise when I was expecting another great show choir originally in our division, such as Gautier, to be called in that place.
I'm not blaming Columbus at all. I believe Columbus did outstanding and they deserved it 100%!!!
I believe this was a problem with organization. I would have no problem at all if it was publically announced beforehand and if every director was alerted of the change before competition started. Surprises like that should not be left for the awards ceremony.
It was just a glitch, but I hope for future competitions, problems like that can be avoided.*

Congratulations to Columbus and Pearl River for their outstanding job yesterday as well as everyone who performed!

*this is just MY opinion, and it does not in anyway reflect the opinion of my director or show choir.

I still find it very hard to believe that a mistake that bad was made... I've never heard of anything like that happening... Let's say Hart beating Clinton was a mistake and everyone from Hart was so happy to beat Attache and then it was just taken away from them... This is an EXTREMELY rare circumstance, and I'm confused to how it happened if it really did, but I'll take your word for it...

Thanks for Understanding but its ALL oKay

So then the final placements would be:

GC: South Jones "Company"
1RU: Petal "Soundsations"
2RU: Petal "Innovaitions"
3RU: Northeast Jones "Gold Horizons"
4RU: Jackson Academy "Encore"

Finals was scored, and then the scores were ranked (meaning that the judges scored each group individually, then ranks were pulled from the scores).

For example:

Judge #1's Scores:
Group A: 173 pts.
Group B: 162 pts.
Group C: 185 pts.
Group D: 142 pts.
Group E: 131 pts.

From those scores, Judge #1's ranks are created:

1st Place: Group C
2nd Place: Group A
3rd Place: Group B
4th Place: Group D
5th Place: Group E

thanks for the info..

Ugh...I'm in the Petal girls group. Kinsey probably wouldn't tell us if we didn't actually get 3rd in finals. I was very surprised when we got 2nd runner up so this doesn't shock me. But it still sucks, so...what place did we actually get then??? 4th or 5th?

A finals placement mistake did occur, that I know for sure. However, at the moment, I am unable to say for certain who it pertained to.

There are obviously multiple versions of the 2RU-4RU placements floating around. If a director of any of these three groups can shed some light on the recent events for us, it would be greatly appreciated.

Even though the situation is unfortunate, let's all keep in mind that it's certainly not the first time this has happened. It is indeed rare, but mistakes in calculations do sometimes happen; it is truly inevitable. Those of you who have been around show choir for several years can testify to that.

I haven't seen the score sheets but when they are announced 5th place that usually doesn't mean they got 3rd... They very well may have tied, but they DID NOT get out right 3rd place... That would belong to the Women's group that beat your women's group... Common sense my dear... Me and a few thousand other people there last night heard GH called out as 4th Runner-up... I was told that they were in 3rd place GOING INTO FINALS, but they placed 5th behind JA and Petal girls IN FINALS... Just drop it... GH didn't get 3rd... That's all there is to it...

Petals costumes were freakin awsome. I enjoyed South Jones more though....even though we watched them through the tunnel thing.

I thought Petal did awesome! But I have to say that I enjoyed South a little more. Perhaps I'm baised because Jonathan McKenzie has been our choreographer for the past two years. But they were both awesome.

I said all groups did an outstanding job! But i do have to say that congrats to all of the Petals kids! Bethany Fagan was awesome! I would NOT have wanted to judge the Solo finals!

We have an awesome youth group at our church! Our church is in Petal, right on the county line. We 1 that is in SJ Company, 2 from Petal Soundsations, 1 from Petal Innovations, 4 from SJ Infusion and 2 from Petal Showtimers in our youth group! It makes for some great Sunday morning conversations! Oh yea, SJ Director, Jonathan McKenzie is our Music Director, we have show choir covered! I was youth director for 3 years and watched all these kids grow up and im telling you, show choir has made a big difference in their lives! People dont realize what these kids learn. It is not all about singing, dancing and winning. It is about being the best they can be in everything they do! show choir is a stepping stone for life. Hard work, dedication and commitment are allessential parts of life that are learned in show choir.

I dont know why i got off on that, was just gonna say great job to ALL of the groups this weekend!

CompanyDad

I must agree with you that show choir does help high school students learn important life lessons. I'm understanding that more and more these days. And I would just love to attend a service at your church sometime! " border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> It's cool that all those choirs are represented at one church. I go to 1st Baptist of Albertville and almost half of all "CenterStage!" members attend there (including Mr. Rains and Mrs. Tidmore).
