albertville loves mt. zion, spain park, and well, EVERYONE.
i was so impressed with everyone who i saw yesterday.
i know that i was so nervous, i literally wanted to die, i was
so scared. but even if we wouldn't have made finals, i would've
been ok with that, because i know that we did our best and thats
all we could've done. and i'm just glad that we got to be a participant
in this competition

We danced our hearts out.

I honestly don't think that anyone is doubting that.

We danced our hearts out. Alex Hargett, our best man, was sick. He almost gave his life for show choir.

Just because Albertville's choreography isn't overly-complicated doesn't mean that it's not good. I feel like way too many show choirs are over-choreographed. In my opinion, Albertville's choreography is far more stylistically appropriate than most; it's not just a cheerleading routine in pageant dresses.

It appears that groups that sing well AND dance are punished and groups that only sing and don’t dance as much or as difficult like alvertville do better.

on the question of choreography. Here's what I always ask myself.

1 Is the choreography appropriate
2 Is the choreography clean
3 Is the choreography effective

I am still scratching my head about petal’s competition!! I am a music major and I have recently become obsessed with show choir and traveling to competitions. First of all, I cannot believe that tupelo girls made finals!! Don’t get me wrong, they were great for a girl group. However, their mostly unison choreo and 2 part vocals did not come CLOSE to comparing to coed Homewood, mt. zion, Opelika, spain park, Pascagoula, or tupelo wave connection. I originally thought there was some terrible mistake and the announcer meant tupelo mixed. But then the girl group placed ahead of Homewood in finals!! This in my opinion was crazy, but good for tupelo girls I guess.

I definitely agree that Single-Gender ensembles shouldn't be judged against mixed ensembles. It's a very bizarre concept, and it's one of those things that would only happen in show choir.

QUOTE(ScottB @ Mar 2 2008, 02:44 PM)
I don't understand show choir judging, but i loved watching all the groups.

I could go on forever about this... but I wont.

I will say though that I'm not really in favor of active show choir directors judging groups that they directly compete against. It would be more understandable if they were judging in a different region or something.

Zion you were so incredible. the name song was so fun! This was my first time to see you live and I am speechless. To attaché- you are an inspiration to the show choir world. I absolutely love the show and costumes (however, I disliked the soloist in the closer which is new). Tupelo wave connection- I can’t imagine how tough it must be to have been beaten by your prep group. For what it is worth, you guys were my favorite show of the day. i love your show. Pascagoula-Wow! You guys danced great and sounded amazing throughout your show especially considering your size! Opelika- great song selection. South jones- congrats on making finals (did not think you would make it, but good job). Just wanted to add my two cents. I don't understand show choir judging, but i loved watching all the groups.

ALSO.....prep group? what is that supposed to mean? if you think our womens group is a prep group to our mixed then you are terribly wrong!!

im just going to go ahead and tell you right now that soundwave's choreography was just as hard as albertville or whoever if not harder...you obviously don't know anything about choreography which would make sense if you were just music major......ONLY SING? are you kidding me?? i think that soundwave deserved to be in finals just as much as any other group that was in it! i personally think that wave connection or spain park or mt zion should have been in it over homewood but that doesnt even matter because it is over with now. it was what it was and people should accept it! im sorry that everybody is so overwhelmed that a girls group made it into finals but life will go on.

To Company Dad:
I just love how you read my mind sometimes and post comments about positive attitudes! It's funny how you can almost sense when a topic might lead in the wrong direction (ex..south jones comp. thread haha)

It sounds like this competition was as much of a bonding experience as it was a nail-biting event. I just want all the kids still in choir right now to remember that that's what it's about! My friends and I still go to watch choirs and when we recall our own show choir memories we rarely remember exactly what place we got where, or who we beat. We just laugh about the fun times we had meeting people our age from so many places who had so much in common with us. So I guess I'm just trying to say to listen to Company Dad, b/c leaving all that intense attitude on the stage is the best way to make your years more memorable in a FUN way!

ps.. as an alum who's been there and performed a complete range in style of shows over 4 years, remember that just b/c choreography looks extremely easy on stage, it's usually that much more difficult. So I'd be careful to assume a choir has an "easy" show whether that means choreography or vocals. It could be just that much more clean than others.

So oh my gosh Petal was amazing!!! I had soo much fun at this competition!! Sitting in the gym listening to Finals announcements was soo nerve racking!!! But I felt like everyone in there was part of this big family because everyone was soo nice and so respectful to each other!! All the groups that competed were extremely good! Congratulations to all of you!!!

Opelika-that was the best show I've see you do!! I love yall!!! You guys are so much fun!

Homewood-This was my first time seeing your show and I loved it!! It was really cute and your choreography was very clean!! I love the girls' opening dresses and shoes!! Congratulations Sarah for winning the solo competition, you did great!

Clinton- I didn't get to see yall, but I saw you at Homewood. Your show is Great!! Mr.Fehr came and hung out with us for a few minutes after everything was over! haha. I love it!

Mt.Zion- First of all, yall are my favorite northern group!! I really enjoyed your show and I loved "What's Your Name". That was a super cute song!! Great show and I was very shocked when you guys didn't make finals. But you are still amazing and Albertville loves you!!

Those were the only groups I got to see, but I heard from many people that every other group was AMAZING!!
Thank you Petal for hosting such a great competition!!

For good or bad, degree of difficulty just isn't on most scoresheets.

im really glad clinton won..
a lot of people in forums have heard clinton's loss against hart and have discredited clinton's amazing show..
although i never saw attache in the past.. i saw them in sullivan.
they were amazing performers and great people.

Congratulations to Attache

Mt. Zion was tied with Tupelo not Spain Park.

Sorry about that, I wasn't actually looking at the sheet when I posted that, was just going off memory. Thanks for clearing that up.

So with Tupelo and MTZ tied, was Spain Park ahead of both of them, or behind them?

Albertville LOVES Spain Park!!! I was pretty sure we would see yall in finals. Just know that yall are winners in our mind. We thank yall as well for thinking outside the box and not being affraid to do something different. Like I said in the show choir grammies forum, I can tell your show wasn't put together just to look good on stage and win, but to actually entertain. That's not so common anymore.
