I’ve always wondered why the Iowa contests are so early when the area is prone to severe winter storms in January. I’m guessing that’s what’s going on?
That's because Iowa has a sparkling small-school scene with several comps that the big schools more or less know to stay away from. I want that so badly to be a thing in the South with a thriving small group division but comps like Purvis rarely pick up the traction needed to become a thing without the attendance of large or superlarge groups.
We are prone to snow until April haha. Idk. If we want to fully avoid snow, we’d have to become California schools and not compete until after spring break. That’s when our circuit is over. Directors want to move on. Many schools have their musicals in the spring. It’s just something we learn to live with.
You are correct, the small school comps are critical to many of our music booster programs that help keep costs low (or free) for our show choir participants. A weekend comp can generate an entire year's revenue for a small school booster club like mine. When weather forces cancellations, our budgets and programs take big hits. I feel for everybody dealing with the blizzard this weekend.
Hi there! I'm assuming you mean Centennial, and do you know if all of their choirs dropped? If I know for sure what the deal is, I can update the event page. Thanks!
I’m not completely sure giving that i heard this from a friend who is friend with the person that was hosting one of Ankeny’s groups. But I am assuming none of them will be here.
