I think there may be an updated schedule out there as I believe Decatur Central withdrew since their treble group qualified for Indiana States. I don't see the updated schedule on the Crystal Classic webpage yet, so we'll update stuff above once that info is shared with us.
Predictions:
GC: Red Hot Hurricane (BV BC BB)
1st RU: Ross Legacy
2nd RU: ETC All Americans
3rd RU: Loveland By Request
4th RU: Olentangy Keynotes
5th RU: NHS Singers
I do think Ross has a huge chance to beat Red Hot. Going to be a fun competition to watch.
Could someone please explain why the women's division is unable to make finals? Shouldn't the TOP 10 groups regardless of gender move on to the finals - I'm not sure I'm understanding the rationale behind excluding the women's/ single gender groups? Thanks
I do not profess to know the reasoning behind it, but if I had to take a guess, I think that it would be unfair to have a combined womens finals (or any combined finals in general) when the large groups are competing in the arena under one adjudication panel and the small groups are compeing in the PAC with a different adjudication panel.
I would just remember that all of this is happening in one day. For a director/team one round of finals, let alone 2/3/4 rounds is a lot to maintain, and keep punctual im sure. There are unfortunately only 24 hours in a day, and with 36 ensembles performing in ‘prelims’ with 30 minute times + finals there’s simply just not enough time. Props to Fairfield for having such a smooth running comp after all these years. Crystal Classic has always been a favorite of mine.
I couldn’t agree more. I completely understand not having a separate finals for the single-gender division, but it really seems the women’s groups should then be given the opportunity to be in the finals alongside the mixed gender groups.
Single-Gender/Womens groups are unable to make finals due to the fact that we have so many groups with doubles. Over the last few seasons Fairfield has struggled to be able to get our Pure Elegance and Choraliers doubles to perform when both groups make finals because often most schools get placed to perform very close to one another. It is a very long day and 4 performances for 1 person is a lot. It is simply just thinking about the wellness of doubles so they won’t be absolutely exhausted. We love our single gender groups, this could change in the future but for the 2023 Crystal Classic we are only doing mixed groups in finals.
