The Show Choir National Finals

LOS ANGELES, California — The stage is set for the 2013 Show Choir National Finals produced by FAME at the Arie Crown Theater on April 26th and 27th! Thirty of America’s best high school show choirs will compete for the title of National Champion and the prestigious Show Choir Cup. 2,000 singer/dancers representing 13 states from 6 regional qualifying events will go head to head, all with 1 vision: being named the 2013 National Champion!

This year’s National Finals round is the strongest lineup ever assembled for the National Championship series. Groups from all 6 regional qualifiers will be in attendance including all 6 1st place finishers; a first for the National Finals and a real testament to the caliber of groups vying for the title. Combined, these groups have captured over 25 Grand Championships this year.

While many eyes might be directed on presumed front runners like John Burroughs “Powerhouse”, Los Alamitos “Sound FX”, Ankeny “Visual Adrenaline”, the Fairfield “Choraliers”, or even Center Grove “CG Sound System”, there are so many incredible groups here that one can never say for sure which group will emerge victorious. Relative newcomers like Uniondale “Rhythm of the Knight” and the Jenks “Trojanaires” might be destined for a surprise upset. Uniondale is nominated for an Aspire Award as “Most Promising New Program” and Jenks fended off tough competition from both Johnston, Iowa’s “Innovation” and South Jones “Company” to take top honors at the FAME Branson qualifier. As if those groups weren't enough, toss in 3 time national finalist and show choir dynasty the “Swingsations” from Mt Zion, IL, the Grand Champion of FAME Chicago Bemidji “Vocalmotive,” and small-but-mighty Norwell “Knight Moves” and you’ve got yourself a real battle royale!

The event also features a separate girls division where the top 2 women’s groups from each of the previous qualifying events will vie for a separate but equal national title. National Champions the “Debtones” from Center Grove (IN) and 2012 National Champions the Los Alamitos (CA) “Soundtrax” are among the groups in the mix. The National Finals will open on both Friday and Saturday with the girls division beginning at 7am and concluding around 12 noon. Other contenders include Bonita Vista’s “Sound Unlimited, South Jones’ “New Edition”, the Mt Zion “Les Femmes”, and the “Sound Sensations” from John Burroughs high school amongst others from NE, IN, and MS.

Director of Festivals Chad Alexander will host Friday’s sound check/dress rehearsal day, and Brydon Brett - a young headliner from Branson, Missouri - will host the FINALS competition on Saturday. FAME President Joel Biggs promised that the awards ceremony will live up to the professionalism and integrity of each of these groups and promises to be an “awards show unlike any other in the country... including a choreographed laser light show, live music from the hot new band P13, and culminating with the presentation of the Show Choir Cups to the 2013 National Champions in both the Girls & Mixed divisions.”

Something new to Saturday’s Finals this year is the addition of the 2013 ASPIRE AWARDS presented live on stage. 10 awards in categories such as: Best Arranger, Best Costumer, Lifetime Achievement, and the prestigious VISUAL VANGUARD & VOCAL VANGUARD will be presented to many of the industry’s top professionals.

Tickets are close to selling out for Saturday’s National Finals. You can purchase tickets online at www.showchoirs.org or at the Arie Crown Theater in McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago (availability pending). A webcast will also be available for a fee at www.showchoirs.org.
