My Predictions are pretty much the same as last year:

Prairie: GC of Splendiferous

CRWash: GC of Wuuuuuuuut?!?!? (in the good way)

CRJeff: GC of Redonkulus

CRKenn: GC of Craymazing

Linn-Mar: GC of YOU KNOW IT!

Wash and Kenn switched spots from last year, and Linn-Mar bumped up from "Heck YEAH!"

Performance Order
Jefferson
Prairie
Linn Mar
Wash
Kennedy

I believe in between Jeff and Prairie there will be a performance from Cedar Rapids' own boy band, Clareboyant! I'm not sure about other solos in between but I'm sure they will be great. Also with the Xavier being added to the list of groups discussion I fail to see why it is brought up every single year. There are two ways to look at in and yes there are facts to support both sides but there's no sense in arguing about it year after year. The way I see it is that if it was possible, efficient, and Xavier fit the financial criteria to be apart of the event, they would have been added. I think one of these years it would be a good idea to just let it go and focus on the five groups that DO perform instead of the one that doesn't. Also with what I've been hearing is that they are still in the process of trying to find a possible new date for the event. Nothing final and the event as of right now is still on as scheduled, but precautions are being taken.

I'm not frustrated in any way haha. You seem to be missing the point about all of this, but that's alright. I would urge you to view the past threads on this topic.

Good luck to everyone! It's a such a fun experience to watch any year, and there is such great talent in these groups this year!

I see your frustration. And if this were not an event that exists primarily as a fundraiser for the schools, I would absolutely fight for Xavier's inclusion. It would be an awesome event to have all seven metro schools perform at one event. But, the simple fact is: this event is a fundraiser. The proceeds are split evenly amongst the five schools. Without increasing ticket prices or moving to a new, larger venue, any new group just steals revenue from the current five.

I will say, the biggest thing Xavier could do is use money to their advantage. The current Fab Five sells out every year. By including Marion and Xavier, you could argue that a second performance be added and that both nights would sell out. And I would imagine that those two nights could bring in significantly more revenue for all schools.

You should read the past threads on this topic, when you do you will realize many Xavier people in the past and present don't care about making money from the fab five, but just particiating it to perform is what is wanted. I personally, and along with everyone I have talked to about this, don't care about getting money from fab five, making your argument irrelevant.
I would also disagre that private schools have an "advantage" over public schools as far as show choir is concerned, look at pure number of students for that.

I don't want to really get into this, but nothing that Xavier students pay goes to the show choir program, that would be all paid for by student fundraisers, the Xtravaganza competition, and the students themselves. Please don't put out misinformation.
Hope all the performances for everyone go well! Such a fun event to attend, the groups themselves are great, and the solos in-between groups are incredible as well!

No mis-information was spread.

I was talking about Xavier High School as a whole. The bottom line is Xavier is a private school. Parents intentionally choose Xavier to send their children to get a private, Catholic, education. They pay a lot of money to do so. That money is not just used for teacher's salaries, building operations, and supplies but also to fund the music department, athletics departments, clubs etc. As previously stated, private schools are funded by tuition, endowments, and contributions/pledges. Should a Xavier department need more money, they can simply raise tuition, seek donors, or increase the endowment spending for a year.

Public schools are paid entirely from state and governmental funding. This is funding that is highly volatile and subject to so many factors outside of a school's hands. When shortages in funding occur, music departments are often the first victims. Fab Five is an opportunity to fund the music departments at the public schools that are always at risk of losing this state funding.

There is no doubt that both private and public school kids have to pay a lot of money to be in show choir. But paying a lot of money is expected and often required at a private school. At a public school, it is not. I have a great deal of respect for Xavier. They are outstanding at almost everything they do. Their academics are stellar, their music department is strong, and their athletics are outstanding. But the fact they are a private institution that has complete control of their funding situation and are not reliant on state funds, gives them an advantage in several regards and I think that is why they should not be included in this event for public schools.

I don't think they let in spectators between groups since those gaps are filled by musical performances from individuals or groups from the schools.

I believe the only exception to that is student performers who bought tickets, but it only makes sense to purchase if you are the first or second group to perform. They also changed it to reserve seating this year leading to tickets being sold very quickly. Although the event is scheduled for this Tuesday there have been talks of postponing due to a large snow storm the area is going to deal with! Nothing for sure yet I believe they are waiting to see how things progress tomorrow then possibly making a call. I can be sure to update if I hear anything!

The website with more information is fabfive.org I believe you can still purchase tickets up until tomorrow night @ 7PM!! There aren't many left but they are $15 a piece.

Now that Marion has developed a program, I would be in support of adding them to this event.

I still think its the correct call not to include Xavier. As a private school, its the endowment, tuition, and pledges/contributions that support them. Those are resources not available to the public schools. By including them, that just lessens the financial support Fab Five lends to the current schools (unless you raise ticket prices), which is not fair.

This topic and more comes up every year with Fab Five. Why Xavier isn't included, should it be expanded to include others, what happened to the Prep groups, etc...

Y'all should check out the archives or utilize the "search" tab to learn more and read past discussions on this. The more you know!

What time does Xavier perform?

Ummm they don't perform at this.....

Also, if I remember correctly, this is an event where you arrive when it starts and don't leave till it's over. I don't think they let in spectators between groups since those gaps are filled by musical performances from individuals or groups from the schools.
