Just so everyone knows... I will have finals performances from this competition up on youtube by the end of this week! I will post the links when I put them up!
After thinking about it for a while, I've come to the conclusion that, yes, Attache was great... I may not be crazy about their show design, but I really really liked Stand in the Rain, I Can See Clearly Now, and the dancebreaks in the closer... Congrats on the win.. I always root for them when they go to the Midwest or West and compete against these other national powerhouses, because it makes the South look good when they are able to win..
Yes, this competition was phenomenal. Congrats to everyone on a great show, and congrats to Attache on the win. And Clinton has a great show this year, I espcially like the first half of it, the opener was fantastic! Good luck to everyone else on the rest of your sason, thanks for a great competition!
Just wanted to give a BIG thanks to Opelika!
You guys ran a great competition! and congratulations to all groups!!
I thought everyone did a fabulous job Saturday!
HATS OFF to Darren Dale for his kind and helpful spirit during this competition. Our students and parents had a great experience at the Opelika competition. Great job to the Ovations for a wonderful show. I was very impressed. Have a great rest of the season.
Twinsburg 1st
Albertville 2nd
Clinton 3rd
Homewood 4th
Petal 5th
Twinsburg was one of the best groups I've ever seen live (Only Clinton 2006 and Mt. Zion 2007 are better that I saw I live IMO)
I hated Albertville's show at South Jones, but it was phenomenal in prelims... Outstanding vocals, and I loved the opener, closer, and ballad... I thought they were better than Clinton overall... The ballad soloist was remarkable, and everyone on stage for them was a great performer...
Clinton: Stand in the Rain was very good, but really the only song in the show I liked... Of course they were super clean like Clinton always is... And I thought the vocals were as good as they've been in a couple of years, but not quite as good as Twinsburg and Albertville... I really disliked the show... Cool backdrops, though...
I was shocked that Homewood wasn't in Finals... I thought they were much better than at South Jones... They kept the energy up the whole show...
Petal was very strong, as usual... Some of the choreography was sloppy though... They were great, but they've been better this year IMO...
No offense to anyone from Enterprise, but I'm confused as to how they made Finals over Homewood and Pascagoula... 72 people is a huge number, but they didn't have the mind-blowing volume they usually have... Perhaps they were trying not to over-sing and contain the sound, but if so, it was probably too contained... I wasn't crazy about the show either... I'm not saying they were awful, because they were good... However, I expected more...
West Jones Sassy: I agree, it isn't fair to win 3 of 4 captions and not place... But I'm putting an end to the Jared Voss blame game right now... He had them in 2nd... There, it's over... But they did do a very good job...
Once again, Opelika proved to me why it is my favorite competition... I had a great time...
enterprise didnt have much practice and it was their first competition. but i agree with u.
I am extremely biased where CenterStage! is concerned, but they were truly top notch last night!
They were amazing... I thought they had beaten Clinton, and maybe even Twinsburg due to the fact that Twinsburg's show regressed after the second number... Centerstage! was the most impressive group there, considering that I fell asleep watching their video two weeks ago... Needless to say, I was in awe last night...
I don't know about anyone else, but it was great to have all the southern choirs together for once and get to see all of your friends and make new ones! I loved it! Thanks Opelika! We love you! and Everyone was truly great!!
I am brand new to this, but I would like to say that each of the performances during finals were absolutely great. Each choir really "raised the bar" during finals. Some of the prelim performances were a disaster for several. I'm glad those choirs had a second chance to do thier best. I guess you could use the old saying from football, "leave it on the field" - well... it was "left on the stage" last night during finals. Great job!
I am extremely biased where CenterStage! is concerned, but they were truly top notch last night!
Thanks Opelika High School for you warm attitude while we were at your Competition. All of the choirs were wonderful, it was certainly a day full of wonderful high school talent.
The only possible explanation that comes to my mind on the WJ Sassy situation is that if you win two captions and don't place, is you have to have a really low score in there somewhere and in this case it just about had to be vocals. They were not keeping time so nobody should have recieved a time pentalty. On the mixed groups one thing people need to keep in mind as far as Clinton goes is even though they are Clinton this was the first time it was on stage in a competition setting and you have to believe they will only get better. Now after having said that it didn't blow me away like some of their shows I have seen in the past. I thougt Twinsburg started out strong in the prelims but they lost me after the ballad in I guess you would call their Novelty number, then the closer just didn't seem to have the same vocals as the opening numbers. I did not see Albertville as I had to move equipment to let Clinton come down the hall, but I saw them at South's comp. and if the vocals were better they had to be great. I know Petal has some areas that need some work but I thought they were better than where they placed. I would of hated to have been a judge as there were some really difftent shows and to me it would have been hard to rank them in an order, guess it depends on what you like.
