For quick lighting in the dressing rooms, you should consider buying a bunch of tap lights. They can be taped onto the walls and no one has to hold a flash light on you when you are dressing. They are lightweight and don't take up much room.

fun competition everyone! We all had a lot of fun at this comp.! our hosts were awesome!

I was upset that i didnt get to see very many groups.

I did see parkview, brodhead, and madison east.

Parkview-Your opener was really good. The dancing in your closer, guys , and girls pieces rocked! i was so inpressed! vocals could have been stronger.

Brodhead- Your show is sooo different from last year! i really liked your second number...whatever it is...the dancing was awesome! and as usual your vocals were great.

Madison east- i was soooooo surprised....you guys rocked this year! i was really impressed!

monona- I really like your show, its sooo different, and you guys pull it off reaally great. I liked it alot!

you guys should all comment on OASC...im really interested to see what people think...

I thought ur show was put on pretty well, and i especially liked the jumping ripples in first number

Here are a few comments:

Hastings-Never, in my life, would i ever imagine a song from school of rock would make it into show choir...that was AWESOME HASTINGS!! Seth, as always, you are the man! way to go with the best male soloist. Like i said, there are like 15 girls from Totino who would love to jump you. And you too, Jonesy. Nice job to hastings for yet again making me love show choir(especially the random things that andrew does). You guys are all fun people to be around, and even more fun to compete with. I cannot wait to see you guys at your competition, and then again at waconia. Congrats to all of you and i hope you have a good season!

Monona Grove- even though your show may not be the typical "Show Choir" set, i thought it was awesome. my friend hannah remarked how awesome it was for someone who has virtual add, because there are so many things going on at the same time. Props to all of you for pulling that show off.

Brodhead- Nice job overall! your show is pretty solid this year, especially the last half of the set...nicely executed.

CR Wash- love the band, and that one wierd chic in your choir named megan...and your director is creepy! what a wierd family he comes from(mine)!

Milton, Eau Claire, Mayville- sadly, I didn't get to see your shows, but from what I heard, they were solid sets.

-Tom

hastings- i only caught "Feelin' good" but that was amazing! i was stirctly instructed by Miriam not to miss that song under any circumstances for her! and let me tell you hearing it down the hall and switching from tired walking to full out sprint was well worth the out of breath pat by the first 30 seconds of the song! LOVEEED IT! hope you guys have an aweseom year (which you will) and keep up the good work

oh pat, have i ever led you astray? i'm glad you liked it, i knew you would! congratulations on this weekend too! i'll see you in a few months!!

Saturday was allot of fun.

Totino- great show, I love your novelty and it was awsome, dont worry about what some people say.

I am really proud of riverside, we stepped it up and you guys showed me how well we could do.

And i thank everyone who danced with us in the halls and the cafeteria, it will be a tradition now. So watch out everyone at eau claire, because there will be a techno dance party everywhere.

Totino- I love your show. I mean your vocals are just amazing. Congrats on getting Grand Champion!!! To Samantha the soloist, you are absolutly amazing and I told you that after finals but to you again. WOW!!! Girl you got amazing pipes. Keep up the great work!!!

To Guys and Dolls, I have probably been your biggest fan since i first watched your show last year and I am just as impressed this year. Your show is so different than the others and just as fun. I love the songs and you sell the, really well. I wish we were going back to your comp. this year but I hope to see your show again this year. If we don't see you at a comp. again I am definatly going to find a way to come see you all again. Great work yesterday!!!

I like these predictions... but we can't forget Iowa City West. I'll go with these though.

Thanks for the shout out Jorge! I really like our show this year and I think that we really have the potential to catch a lot of people off gaurd. Not a great start to the season ... but hey... 3 points? and we had a really long drive too so we weren't too upset!

first off, congrats to everyone yesterday, especially the finalists! I didn't get to see many groups, but I got to watch Eau Claire, Brodhead, Hastings, and Monona Grove. Great job to Eau Claire, you seem to be having a good year so far. Props to Brodhead for really kicking it up since last weekend. To Hastings, I watched you guys last week too and I love your show! It's soo much fun and very entertaining! Monona Grove has an extremely different show, but none the less, you guys do an awesome job with it! The competition was very well run and everyone was so nice...I must say that we had the BEST hosts ever! and if there was a best decorated room/most creative award, they should have won! If anyone has more comments or critiques on our show that they'd like to share it'd be appreciated! Once again, congrats to everyone and good luck the rest of the season!!

I would just like to make a few suggestions to all host invitaional groups. Make sure that your stage set up will accomodate all shows to the best of your ability! You must plan ahead and be able to make changes for all groups. Ex. - make sure that there is adequate lighting and space. This past week at Monona Grove my show choir encoutered a few slight set-backs. We only had about five feet behind the risers. Two feet had to be open for our singers and dancers, so that only left about three feet for the band. We have a fairly large band of 14, and we found it rather inconvenient to all squeeze together so tightly. So please allow more space behind the risers. Another problem occured in the changing tents. There was not sufficient lighting in the tents, so several people were late during the costume changes due to the fact that they couldn't see what they were doing. In general, make all accomidations that you can possibly think of, and others will be grateful.

i agree with what other people have said. things aren't the ideal situation for you? deal with it. flexibility is key. being resourceful. i remember my senior year, we had a part in our show where the guys entered by jumping up on the back riser. well, we got to totino grace's invitational and SURPRISE!! we realized the back riser was taller than what we were used to, by about a foot! so, mr warren had to re-choreograph the entire entrance, and we only got to rehearse it a few times. also, you have to realize that it's not unfair because every single group has the exact same conditions. it's about making the best of what you've got to work with and still putting on the best show you can. this, to me, sounds dangerously like making excuses. i'm sure, of course, you're not. it was simply an observation

hmmmmmm thats strange. it was really dark in the tent but we didnt have any problems with that. our costume changes were actually the fastest we've ever done them. only one girl didnt make it onstage and thats because her costume was put on backwards twice... so that was her fault. we actually were barely able to fit our band on the back of the stage this year. thats really weird. and our fog machine had trouble fitting in the finals.

but this was really a great competition! much better than last year! our hosts rocked! (i never saw our hosts last year) our room was sort of the host hangout for the day so sorry if you didnt have hosts! lol

i saw totino, hastings, and brodhead for their day performances and MG both times. i loved totino! AMAZING vocals! wow they were really awesome. and the female soloist was amazing. everyone in momentum loved her! ana- you are now one of my favorite show choir people ever!

hastings was a LOT of fun to watch! great vocals! awesome faces! but i dont really remember the show.... i was so tired and i had the worst headache ive ever had!

brodhead. so much better than i thought u would be. you had pretty powerful vocals and you were pretty clean, i think (i was at a bad angle).... work on the faces. there was a girl and she was always in the front row and i never saw her smile. ever. and i watched her the entire show. there were a lot of other empty faces... so watch out for that!

MG---- ok it was weird.... very weird. i loved your ballad and opening soloists! a lot! your ballad was very pretty. and the stomp thing was cool! the costumes werent that bad. and the show was soooooooooo much less weird than last year! i was actually pretty impressed with you guys! so much better than last year at this point in the season!

it was really a fun day! loved the cheering competition type thing in finals! everyone was so nice! thanks to MG for a great competition!

does anyone have any critique about Momentum?

At Holmen 2003, no one was allowed to exit or enter from stage right (as you face the audience) for any reason. We were not told about this until we got there. Our prep group to completely change our entrance and exit in the 10 minutes we were standing out in the hallway, and it was tough for the Silver Connection too, even though they had some more time to think about it. Adam is right, competitions should generally try to facilitate all groups but the groups have to meet them halfway. The group can't say, "You should do things exactly how we want them." At the same time, competitions shouldn't have arbitrary rules or issues that make life tough for groups. I think the lighting thing should be easy to fix for next year but I am not sure about the space. 5 to 6 feet is a pretty standard amount of room at every competition I have been to, including yours by the way. I am about 6'4, and I don't think I have ever been to a competition where there is enough room between the wall and risers for me to lay down. Not that I would, but just as a rule of thumb.
